What was your favorite "Classic" approach to Graal? I'm only going to include the most common ones.

Graal the Adventure... 2001-2003 was awesome. Though I don't think the name was changed to that till 2002 but my memory sucks so I could be wrong.

yaknow.. i'm not sure if i completely miss the way the server used to look and be back then.. or if i just miss all the people i used to always mingle with back then when it was all free and ****.. 200+ players all the time.. people always be whinin about how classic has changed and ****.. but i think it's more just the people and p2pness that makes people feel this way

My favourite approach to classic is the one that does not overload random keys like W with horribly annoying ganis.

You can change the keys that "wave" and "hug" are on.

Sometimes I can, then someone shows up and removes the NPC that let me do that.

Apparently all the surrounding keys are overloaded with annoying gimmicks as well so I might just stick to sitting very still and harassing people over PM.

Tyhm has a spectacular aura about
There were 2 Graal2000s though; Graal2000 had marching orders to stagnate, and everyone who played it said I picked the wrong month to host, everything was better either a month before or after the levels pack hosted - and in any case, it doesn't count because people aren't forced to play it, therefore the playercount sucks, I should delete GtA and replace it wholesale with Graal2000+1Month, and also why isn't their playerhouse there?
So Graal2000b was a revision with orders to update like mad, and nobody liked that either, because obviously the LAT was corrupt to replace (insert name here) with (insert update here), and clearly Tyhm was mad to split the playerbase like that.

Then there was Nostalgia, which I was told wasn't anything like how Graal really was in the past, Graal was never sepia-toned. :-P And in any case, it spread the playerbase too thin. Always a problem on Classic; you need a small enough world to make people run into each other, but a big enough world that the people on quests tend to run them alone.

You know what'd be awesome though? If there was a way to overlay the various versions of Graal so people still run into each other without compromising their view of the world. Like, take the timeless common areas, Graal City and The Joint and Zol's, and whatever time you're coming from determines how the level appears To You, but as you walk into common area everyone else sees you fade in, and as you walk off to Master Li's Woods or Fuitad's Domain you fade out...ah, for a free hand in such matters...

Psh, you don't want me back. I was never Good at what I did, just persistent. Making stuff like the Whistle function, then not having a way to change which button it was or get into F1, petitioning Stefan endlessly for a serveroption that'd access F1 (ServerVariables= would have been sweet)...
besides, I never learned GS2, I'd be lost now.

That is about what Graal needs at this point. There are dozens of playerworld projects that never went anywhere and probably never will. You actually made a fun server.

Quote:

You do not get to blame yourself for that because at some point it was possible to change the button or disable it probably because I harassed the previous classic staff about it, and some ****** took out the option when they last reset the server and took away all my cool items.

This alone shows how consistent you like things to be, and with Classic and even Graal both being all over the place at the moment it probably needs someone like you to point these little things out for the greater good!

p.s I've really got to stop replying to the same threads as Loriel.

Haha, well, if you guys can get The Coder to listen to me next time, maybe I will. Or if he's finally opened up the code enough that we won't still be needing to start every system NPC with "Okay, ignore all the default clientside movement and the default displays, since No Servers Ever Use Them And They Don't Work Anyway" and we don't have to nag him for access to F1 and F7 because Everything's Finally Scripted...pipe dreams anyway.

Classic back in late 2000-early 2001ish.
When there was only 1 MoD Fort and guild fights lasted several days.
When collecting Heras was long and challenging; and fun.
Before P2P. Before Vampires and Zorbi were playable races.
Before all this really terrible serverside scripting that the server has now.

I miss those guild wars I hated so much at the time. So much hand pain during and after. On a side note though, you should of heard the complaining when Thor brought back hera's. People have got lazy and don't want to take the time to actually do a long, hard quest. They want instant gratification then complain later about being bored.

He could have given full hearts instead of heras. Having a long hard quest for 1/5 of a heart is unreasonable.

That's exactly what I thought, and apparently the developers at Zelda too.

Huge Quests = Big Heart / Full Heart
Side Quests = Heart Piece / Hera

There is an obvious logic in doing so, but no amount of heras or even full hearts can compensate me for the amount of boring stock puzzles I had to go through to do that quest.
