My friend had a really neat idea that would revolutionize the way hats are on Graal2001. The basic concept would be that hats come with properties and change the player's characteristics slightly when equipped.
Here's some examples:
Frog Hat - When player walks, they hop instead.
Samurai Helmet - Player's sword damage increases.
Red Mage - Bogen arrows become fire arrows that deplete a player's HP slowly.
Blue Mage - Bogen arrows become ice arrows that freeze a player for 3 seconds.
Black/Red/Purple/Yellow/Green/Blue/White/Fire Shogun(s) - Player's HP gradually depletes. Random sword technique that does a lot of damage when sword is used. Each sword technique for each shogun color is different.
Black Gangster/Brown Gangster - Random amount of gralats dropped at random times.
Fool's Cap - Random amount of gralats dropped at random times.
Gladiator - Increases player's defense against sword attacks.
Winged Knight - Increases player's defense against bamboo attacks.
Super Knight - Prevents damage from ice arrows.
Blue Knight - Prevents damage from fire arrows.
Blue Wizard - Player's HP gradually increases. Think of the popular "regen" spell on many other RPGs.
