Won't work too well unless you have simple symmetrical objects -
if the image is too complicated in direction(als), then it won't turn out too well when shadowed.

Not necassarily... making like, a shadow template of the image and doing small rotations for each frame would result in a pretty realistic shadow. I don't see what the image being symmetrical has to do with it because it isn't flipping the image to the other side, it would basically be rotated in a graphics program.
