Problem with Failed Attempts on Learning Spells

How's that? Example: Alex picks up a scroll of fletching. He's very happy that he finally afforded it, and is now going to learn it. He attempts to learn it, but fails. His friend Bobby also wants to learn the ability, so Alex lends the scroll to him (which obviously, under these circumstances, still exists), and then Bobby succeeds in learning it .. leaving Alex with nothing. How is that sharing? I don't understand your logic on this one.
