hmm... I'm not THAT new to textures, I had a popular site for the sims with roof tiles, floor tiles, wall tiles mostly by me, and then it was more popular for the skins, which someone else made... just meshes.... skins for chars would be hard to do for me, as would animation stuff, etc. *doesn't want to think about it*

My personal record on that site for hits in a week still stands at 30,000... or maybe it was 3,000... but i think it was 30,000.
Only 27,000 between them... what's the difference? (I think I'm going to see if I can get some research for my personal most hits in a week total)

EDIT:
I'm just going to go with 3,000... since i remember the counter saying something like 50k and me going woah... they have to use the letter "k" if there are too many numbers (I used a then free thecounter.com counter)... that and I only had it up for about two years... I also look back at the corny GFX and site layout and say, "Wow, I will have to admit that is good for a 10-11 year old... regardless of how corny it is!" I still use those basic design tactics in my websites today. If you want to see my corny design tactics you can go to "archive.org" and look up: either "simbottle.cjb.net", "simbottle.simhomes.com" (didnt last long there, host's server didn't like my bandwidth and d/ls), "crosswinds.net/~jake13jake" (when they advertised that they were going to be free forever and ad-less forever... my how things change), or... if the cjb.net address doesn't give you enough, then "simbottle.thesimsresource.com" would go fine (yes, they used to host people, too... but have gone for the $$ since)

The only textures The Sims used was on their bodies, the rest were just images all aligned on the propper perspective. If one wanted to they could make The Sims looks like that painting with all those weird perspectives that don't line up. I used to edit a little too, I was waiting for "Emma" or whatever that thng was called to come out, but I got uninterested, along with my transmogrifier stopped working. The Sims textures were pretty basic, sometimes.. I made a few "Stephen" Sims in my time (by editting their face)

Hm, question. Is 3DMAX similar to Lightwave? When I used to take computer animation we learned the basics of lightwave..basiclly all the "tools" in the modeler and some in the animator.

I like the little program that came with the deluxe edition that'd let you add skins using any graphic file.

Well, if I remember right, 3dMAX costs about 2,000 bucks, could be wrong though, but it was expensive.

make the game more graalish? That's stupid.


We wanna try and improve the graphics, we went from classic (big head with small body) to (original human 3d 2d gfx (kingdoms)- now lets go beyond that and make it 3D.

((which theyre already doing))

How about a graal character that can be viewed in any angle that looks exactly the same as those loveable zelda pudgey characters

We are mostly using torque because it saves us lot of testing for all the 3d card on the market. Compatibility is the most difficult task when you make a 3d engine.

The only reason I upgraded, is because there was an old thing on the main site saying that VIPs could test Graal3D, and I upgraded, and we can't.. Thats false advertisement and kinda pisses me off

When I first started using 3DS Max I considered suicide.. not joking - but that thing is a snot to get used to, and the rendering will eat you alive. I mostly used it to learn about 3D stuff, and make art... now I use a perfectly legal version of Bryce 5

Wow...When the preview of G3D came out, I changing the level and graphics and everything (you can edit the .x files with notepad). It wasn't TO hard if you knew what you where doing but i couldn't actually make something that looked good...I could only make it so the head had a random stick coming out of it or have 2 heads or have feet for hands ^_^

And no...the graphics every very simple unless you wanna worry about lining it up with the 3D cords correctly

Well, if the program 3dsmax is going to be used to develop the content of the game, then I'd suggest implementing the gmax extensions, so that the players who create additional content do not have to pay a large sum of money to contribute to the community.

If you didn't know, gmax is a free application with much of the power of the full 3ds max program. The best part is, it's free, and it works with several popular game titles that are out today. It's meant for the gamer who wants to take the next step into customizing games or creating mods, or the gamer who just wants to extend the life of the current title they are playing.

Everyone seem to be intrested in the development of Graal3d but what am wondering is what kind of role (story play) would it have? Would it be the same as kingdoms where you have to be very rich to be good at your character? Cause basically that what kingdoms is all about you must earn alot of money before getting the real vision of the game. Money should not be such a big part of a roleplaying game i believe items should normally be dropped (monster dropped) where the highest characters can go about and explore in dangerous areas and find rare items.

Specially when you pay for the roleplaying game o_O! Thats how some graal servers (and even some -games-) are these days. You pay to work. By work in this case, it could be making stuff for a server or just making some "graal" money. I really hope they have a lot to do. I WANNA RIDE A DRAGON DAMNIT >:O!

Well it doesn't seem clear as to whether 3D battle sequences will be implemented into Kingdoms or not. From what unixmad said, there would be a demo server, but he didn't make it clear if it would be totally 3D or just partially. Some clarification would be nice.

As a designer, I am curious as to the support and ease of integrating new objects into the new developing Graal3D engine.

Like what 3D formats will it support? How will the textures be handled? Will there be source packs released to help development of new content? I am looking forward to playing around with the new engine whenever it finally gets released for us to play with. Of course, I will have to brush up on my meshing and texture skills beforehand.

why not buy ut2 engine for 100k? i heard it can show outside stuff pretty good.

I recently bought the Torque Engine and you can switch between first and third person, but im not sure if Stefan changed that or not.
::Edit:: The torque engine really isnt as easy as they say it is at their website, so dont get misleaded. ;P

Lightwave is like 3D Studio Max, only simpler and with less features and power.

I have both of those, as well as Bryce. I'd like to try my hand at Maya though.

As for 3D stuff... modeling is easy once you get into it, and animation is a million times easier than drawing individual 2D sprites, since you just move the skeleton and the model bends with it.

Texturing certain things is just as easy as making tiles for a 2D tileset. They are still just being placed in a tiled pattern, only the level isn't flat. But for like, texturing of models and such, you need to practice a bit to make it look good when wrapped around a 3D form.

As for Graal3D... well, it sounds neat, and I hope they have made a lot of changes since the last screenshot. I myself would like to see the current Graal turned 3D (like cell-shaded, cartoony looking) There is a total lack of online rpg's that look like that. While the "realistic" mmorpgs are a dime a dozen.

If I wanted to play a realistic mmorpg, I could find about 15 of them in a few minutes. I'd much rather see something that looks more like Graal. I remember me and Unix had a talk about Graal3D, and how we both thought that it would be awesome if it was like Zelda Wind Waker, except online.

i believe that the torque engine allows the option for cell shading... try out the demo on garage games to see all the features.
