Well......we already have a post on the board about how you found Graal, but what about what you did before you found out about Graal? This is gonna be long!!!

What i did before Graal, was nothing really special....for 4 years i programmed games with Megazeux, a pure DOS program. The whole game itself was ASCII based, but it was nice because it came built with an editor and such. And its own programming language that is real easy to learn. Its real limitations is the fact that it was DOS and it was limited to the 640k, but it could use EMS/XMS memory and could play module based music (MOD, S3M, XM, etc.). The other limit is your imagination and understanding of its language.

Several times, when i have been scripting NPCs, I've really wanted to replace the commands Im using with Robotic that I used in Megazeux. Even though it was ASCII, I made my very own (and very basic) Mode 7 engine.

Megazeux is a very powerful game, as far as the editor is concerned, but not as powerful as Graal. But both have their own unique commands. One thing I wish Graal could do is natively play mods.

Here is basically what a Robot (the programmable objects in megazeux)looked like on the inside:

end
:"touch"
* "hello"
end

that would make it display the text hello at the bottom of the viewport window when you touched the robot....It even allowed custom ASCII graphics and 16 color palettes.....there is the link to one of the top MZX sites if you're interested

http://www.digitalmzx.net/

though as a warning......the Megazeux community tends to be very harsh towards n00bs and even each other...

Since I found Graal, i havent used Megazeux...but still have it

I started going online a lot when I was 9 (on Prodigy). I played Checkers on there for just the chatting purpose. Then I found "Chat Rooms" and did that. Then I got AOL when I was 11 and blah. Then um. I did stuff then someone said "GRAAL" and yeah.

Blah.

Before I had Graal I did the following:

I played other games, although none online because I had a crappy dial-up for which you had to pay every minute you were online.

Um I had a life before I was addicted to this game. I barely played back in 1.0-1.3, then I started playing a few hours in 1.4 and now I play too much in 2.01. Before I came to Graal, I would cheer all day, but cheerleading hasn't started yet, so I will probably quit Graal while I'm cheerleading.

MANGBAND an online multiplayer game that used ASCII characters for graphics, and pc speaker beeps for sound effects, wanting more I looked for a better game, and then found Graal.

I also ran my own SNES rom site, it was then shut down...

Unhappy lalala

I used to chat on ICQ/IRC, build crapy web sites (which are all still out there if you can find them). Lets seee.. *thinks* umm, when I was in high school I used to program network applications and databases. Again, while in high school I stage managed an' stuff. Back then I actually went out on dates. heh, now look at me: I get up at 6, go work at 8 (I'm a programmer/data anaylist) , get back sometime after 5, then work on graal until 10 or 11. my life sucks

Before Graal I was about equally unproductive... I just found any old junk to do.

Uh....*thinks*...downloaded eva videos. It was fun tryin' to download 30 megs at like 2 or 3kbps. I started programming in Dos batch files. (yes, it can be done. File access and very very long strings of prompts. It misses of course, variables and anything that could be useful ) I then moved on to QBasic. Learned a bunch of that. No mastery or anything, but I did know quite a bunch. Then a while later I found Graal...and, after playing it endlessly for months, decided to try programming in it, and found that it was easier than both QBasic and Dos Batch Files. Guess if you start out uber-hard things seem easier when you have more available.

I got on the internet sometime during '94 or something. I was around during the founding of DALNET and pretty much chatted on IRC quite a bit on Quarterdeck.com's IRC server which is now down. I then became a wizard on The Palace which is the equivilant of a GP on The Palace. That lasted about 2 months before I got sick of it and quit. I learned quite a bit of mIRC scripting then and built a number of unpublished scripts for myself. Then I got into religious channels and religious debates, I got on ICQ in August '97 which was around the time ICQ came out under the Mirabilis corporation, and then I got into emulation through my brother and I worked for Zophar's Domain (http://www.zophar.net) and thats about around the time I met PACHUKA. A year later, PACHUKA told me about Graal, but I never tried it until weeks after he initially told me about it. The reason I didn't touch it is because I'm not an avid gamer, and Graals the first game thats managed to grab my attention and keep it. Graal's been cool.

I think this is the longest post I've made. Weeeee.

It's possible to play mods in Graal,
turn on winamp support in the graal
options then it uses winamp for the
'play' command
Or you can use openurl but then you must
click on 'Open' before you hear it :-)

Oh this was offtopic ...
Before Graal I had school and did some
Java games (short version :-)

Well, I usually chatted on AIM/ICQ, drew pictures, and did homework...

But now that I play Graal, I chat less, draw pictures less, and do homework less.

well, let me see, might as well reply...
I grew up with the good old Commodore 64 and the Amiga, so I eventually played around a bit with C-64 Basic a bit. I learned Visual Basic in High School, and I am currently learning C++ in college. I played Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (turn based), Warcraft II, and an old game called Scorched Earth (fits on a floppy!). Then I discovered Graal last October, and I have played it since.

The C-64 had some great games, I mostly remember the old Infocom text games...

Yeah, I was making the campaign for it back when most of the demon units were still Zerg.
Then again when the first succubi were added.
Then I quit when he juggled all the units around and the campaign would have had to start over from square one. Gave Deathwing all my files and offered to help out my next of kin. Never got contacted, though he did ask me to grammarcheck some of his DiabloII pages for him.
