[How to Fix] In-game text not showing up. (Graal v2.x)

This applies to the 2.x versions of Graal. this problem does not occur in Graal 3.x.

Ok, I myself had this problem, and helped another person recently with this problem as well, so I thought of making a thread in bug reports about how to fix it, as well as documenting what video cards/drivers are affected.

I don't know if this affects video cards other than nVidia cards yet.

Basically when full screen anti aliasing is enabled, text does not show up in-game. (You'll see it for a second before it dissapears for good). When lighting effects are disabled, the text shows up again.

[edit]
I found that with FSAA enabled, text shows up on Graal Kingdoms, but other servers, and the tutorial, it does not.
[/edit]

Affected Video Cards:
- nVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4600 128mb
- nVidia GeForce 4 MX 440
- nVidia GeForce 2 MX 400

Unaffected Video Cards:
- nVidia GeForce 3 Ti 200

I would like it, if anybody could, if they know their video card supports FSAA (Full Screen Anti Aliasing), to toggle it on (2x or above, not Application or Off, of course). And post here their video card, video drivers (& version), Graal version, and if text shows up in-game or not.

Guide to fix this problem for nVidia users:

  1. Click on Start, go to Settings, then go to Control Panel -> Settings -> Control Panel
  2. Go to Display, a new window should appear, titled Display Properties, change to the Settings tab, then press the Advanced button.
  3. A new window, titled (Your monitor name) and (Your video card name) should appear.
  4. Switch to the tab named after your video card, it's probably named something like GeForce (model name/number).
  5. A new menu should pop out of the side of this window, look for Performance & Quality Settings in the list. If this menu does not appear, you need to update your graphic drivers, please go here.
  6. Now, there should be three slider bars, titled Image Settings - (Selected Setting), Antialiasing - (Selected Setting), and Anisotropic Filtering - (Selected Setting).
  7. If the Antialiasing setting is at anything OTHER THAN Off or Application, change it to Off or Application, however, I suggest Application.

Attached is a screenshot of the window what I am talking about.

Ah. Then I must respond that my Ti200's Anti-Aliasing does not do any harm to Graal's text.

Can you try reproducing that crash, and posting the information the crash message says? (What operating system are you using?)

Add "nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4600 128mb" to the affected list. Thats what I have and antialiasing makes the text in Graal not show up.

[edit]
driver version is "6.14.10.5503"
[/edit]

I have a GeForce 2 MX 400, and I've never had a single problem with text not showing. Maybe it's the size of the card? Because mine is 64 MB.

The size of the card has little to do with it. Its usually the driver or the card itself. Having more video ram on a card isn't going to make a game not work. Having less, however, can and will affect the performance of many games.

That's what I meant. Perhaps too little affects how the text shows in Graal?

It's unlikely. Fonts don't usually take up much memory.

It's likely a bug in with how Graal renders the text in-game.

That, really, sucks.

Erm, maybe, just maybe it could be a problem with the font. (Not having (doubtful because you can change it), loaded wrong.)
Do the weapons etc. use the same fonts as text/names?
