Ultimate Swordsmen Tournament 2002
==========================

Greetings,

I am here to inform you of the upcoming Tournament that is going to take place in the G2K2 server. It's not just a good fight competition but it also a large RP event. Specific dates and dealines are still being studied. You may read the PDF document below to gather more information about the Tournament and it's rules. As for now we are still not accepting subscriptions. More information will be available later this month. Click the link.

TOURNAMENT.PDF (99,2 KB) - Virus Free - McAfee Checked

Feel free to e-mail me at this address.

Note: some people don't know how to open a PDF document. PDF is the Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format. The Acrobat Reader is distributed freely at Acrobat.com and if you for any reason still don't have it, you definetely should.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is FREE

Adobe Acrobat Reader is FREE, and it is the most reliable and safe file format in the Internet these days.

http://www.acrobat.com/

But if you don't feel like downloading it (not a good idea) I will upload a TXT version as soon as possible (I am in the office right now, all documents are automatically saved as PDF).

First off before you start anything big...

DONT HAVE IT ON 2002 IF YOU WANT TO BE HALF GOOD.

The lag will kill your event.
The fighting will suck (to slow and it takes forever to die)

stefan: you definetely did NOT read the document, did you?

First of all, its not to the death.. as a matter of fact, if you read the document, you will see I have already thought about everything - including the lag...

(I run the game without ANY lag while indoors - I've been indoors with more than 50 people and it worked fine - my suggestion would be turning off the 3D light effects and running in compatibility mode with Win98. If it is not enough, the problem is with your connection)

Exclamation Version in Word97 format...

AlexH: I uploaded the text in Word97 format. Hopefully you should be able to read it without the Adobe Acrobat Reader. This is NOT a good idea (I wouldnt recommend downloading the Word97 text) but it is available in the link below. The PDF version is not only safer but it is more confortable to read/print as well.

again, the PDF version is here:

Wink Answer to Feivel

Feivel,

If you pass the qualification phase, as explained in the document, you will be assigned a division (Alpha or Beta). Alpha will fight on Friday while Beta will fight on Saturday. If Saturday is a problem for you, we will probably assign you to division Alpha.

Any other question?

(The event is under final review and should be ready for initialization by next week, so stay tuned... also, I would like to remember everybody that even after it goes official [with dates and deadlines] there will be plenty of time for your preparations)

THE ULTIMATE SWORDSMEN TOURNAMENT

Originally Developed by: Greyheart IV and Coldflare The Swordsman

Judge (referee): Greyheart IV

Support by: Arkanis The Swordsman, Rune (W), Dexter and DarkCloud

SUBSCRIPTION RULES

All candidates must apply 10 days before the Tournament starting day. These candidates will then gather at the Dojo (after 5 days from the subscription deadline) in the Samurai Island to perform a qualification stage. The qualification stage will serve as an eliminatory phase before the actual Tournament.

In the end, there shall be no more than 20 participants split in two divisions: Alpha and Beta. The rules are described below and a judge will be present in all the fights.

Tournament days are still undecided.

SUPPORTING STAFF SUBSCRIPTION RULES

The supporting staff will be divided in two categories: security and competitors’ aids. All candidates interested should apply as soon as possible; the deadline is 15 days before the Tournament begins. All qualified candidates (with a valid account and character name) will be accepted and therefore assigned a task. There are no special privileges to the Tournament supporting staff (this is not a G2K2 staff position) except maybe for the chance to be an active part of the competition.

Qualification for this position will be granted by the Judge.

LOCATION, DATES and SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

In the small Samurai Island, the Ultimate Swordsmen Tournament will be run in Tems’u’Dojo. All competitors will receive a special place to rest and possibly prepare themselves. Supporting Aids will be made available to help the competitors with anything they might consider necessary (new swords, shields or bread*). The Dojo will be open to the general public while a security force will keep the spectators in a safe distance. Only the judge and Tournament competitors are allowed inside the carpet.

Exact dates are open for discussion but certain aspects of the Tournament calendar have been already decided. The competition will begin in a given Friday, with it’s second part being completed in the following day; the final stage will be fought Sunday between division Alpha and Beta’s champions.

Administration support from the G2K2 staff are still being studied but it would be of great value if the Tournament received such support.

*More information in the Rules section.

MISCELLANEOUS RULES

1. All prospective candidates for a Supporting Staff or Competitor position must have a valid account name and e-mail address.
2. During the qualification phase, Competitors are not allowed to wield Steel or Split Swords. Shields are also unacceptable.
3. Before the fight, during the Tournament, all Competitors must be present at the Dojo and respond to the counting. Competitors who miss the counting are disqualified.
4. Aids will be available, during the Tournament, to help and make special arrangements for the Competitors. The Competitors must provide minerals and/or any material necessary for the Aid to perform the desired task or otherwise privately negotiate some form of payment.
5. If a Competitor leaves the Dojo after the counting, s/he will be disqualified.
6. Any ‘close quarters’ weapon and protection will be accepted during the Tournament, except for snowballs and other projectile weapons. The Judge has the final decision.
7. Personal differences must be left outside the Dojo. Unofficial fights or violent behavior are enough reason to disqualify a Competitor.
8. Competitors are allowed to consume bread before and after fights in order to quickly restore their energies. Inappropriate use of bread will disqualify the Competitor.
9. Division Alpha Competitors are not required to attend the counting on Saturday while Division Beta Competitors are not required to attend the counting on Friday.
10. The Judge has the final decision and may disqualify any Competitor if necessary.

QUALIFICATION STAGE RULES

1. Prospective Candidates will have their names randomly selected in ordered pairs. There will be as many fights as necessary until an accepted number of Candidates are left.
2. All Candidates will fight in an equal position, with the same weaponry and abiding to the same rules. Candidates are granted equally fair chances of winning.
3. The outcome of each fight will be decided by points:

- Successfully Stabbing: +2
- Successfully Slicing: +1
- Successfully ‘Dodging’: +-0
- Taunting and/or Cursing: -1
- Leaving the Carpet (up to 2 seconds): -1
- Leaving the Carpet (up to 4 seconds): -2
- Leaving the Carpet (over 4 seconds): Out

4. In doubt, the Judge has the final decision and may declare the winner or loser.
5. Each fight will take exactly 2 minutes, including any ‘break’ timing.
6. After a point is declared by the Judge, both Candidates must assume the starting position and wait for a new start signal. Misbehavior may disqualify the Prospective Candidate.
7. A Candidate is granted the option to ask for one (1) ‘break’ (up to 30 seconds) during the fight.
8. Twenty Competitors will be selected among the Candidates. These Competitors will be divided, randomly, between Division Alpha and Beta.

TOURNAMENT STAGE RULES

1. Division Alpha Competitors will fight on a given Friday while Division Beta Competitors will fight in the following day. Alpha and Beta’s champions will attend to the Final Stage, on a given Sunday.
2. Competitors will have their adversaries chosen randomly. The Tournament Table (listing) will be released 5 days before the starting date.
3. All weapons and protection used during the fight must be accepted by the Judge.
4. The outcome of each fight will be decided by points:

- Successfully Stabbing: +2
- Successfully Stabbing x2: +3
- Successfully Slicing: +1
- Successfully Slicing x2: +2
- Successfully ‘Dodging’: +-0
- Successfully Blocking: +-0
- Taunting and/or Cursing: -1
- Offending the Spectators and/or Judge: Out
- Leaving the Carpet (up to 2 seconds): -1
- Leaving the Carpet (up to 4 seconds): -2
- Leaving the Carpet (over 4 seconds): Out
- Inappropriate Behavior *: -1

*According to the Judge

5. In doubt, the Judge has the final decision and may declare the winner or loser.
6. Each fight will take exactly 5 minutes, including any ‘break’ timing.
7. In case of a tie, an additional two (2) minutes will take place, up to three minutes if the tie persists.
8. Mortally wounded Competitors (HP below 15) will be declared incapacitated to continue the fight.
9. Each Competitor is granted the option to ask for one (1) ‘break’ (up to 30 seconds) per fight.
10. After a point is declared by the Judge, both Competitors must assume the starting position and wait for a new start signal. Misbehavior may disqualify the Competitor.
11. One champion will be declared in each Division. These champions will attend to the Final Stage.

FINAL STAGE RULES

1. Both champions must be present ten minutes before the fight. Failure to do so will disqualify the champion who will have his tittle immediately discarded.
2. The champions will decide, assisted by the Judge, which weapons will be validated for the fight. The champions will have to fight with equal weaponry and protection.
3. Additional Referees (Judges) may be selected among the Supporting Staff to act in behalf of each champion.
4. The outcome of the fight will be decided by renounce:

- Leaving the Carpet for more than 4 seconds: Out
- Inappropriate (Offending) Behavior: Out
- Changing Weapons or Protection: Out

5. In doubt, the Judges have the final decision and may declare the winner.
6. Unlimited time. The fight will continue until one of the champions renounces or dies.
7. No ‘break’ time will be available. It is a non-stop fight.
8. Use of bread or anything similar in order to regain Health will disqualify the champion and his tittle will be immediately discarded.
9. A renouncing champion will retain the tittle of champion but will not receive the 1st place prizes.
10. The Ultimate Champion must donate the sword used in the last fight to the Ultimate Swordsmen Tournament organization.

COMMON STAGE RULES

1. Combatants must behave appropriately, obeying the Judge and the rules of combat. Failure to do so will disqualify the combatant.
2. A fight starts when the Judge signs positively (“Start”) and both combatants should immediately stop when the Judge signs negatively (“Halt”). Failure to accomplish this will disqualify both combatants.
3. The Judge’s decisions are NOT open to discussion. Disrespect will disqualify the combatant.
4. Spectators are NOT allowed inside the carpet. If a spectator manages to bypass the security line, therefore interrupting the fight, s/he will be expelled from the Dojo.
5. LAG advantages are NOT acceptable. If a combatant presents an unacceptable lag, s/he will be asked to reconnect OR restart the client side. Failure to do so will disqualify the combatant.

FINAL NOTES and INFORMATION

The Ultimate Swordsmen Tournament organization is run by Greyheart IV (account name fabiobit) and Coldflare The Swordsman. You may print a version of this document for your own use and/or distribute it freely as long as it’s content is not modified.
In some instances, this document refers to the ‘Competitors’ and the ‘Candidates’ as ‘he’ or ‘him’. This is completely unintentional and for the ease of reading.

Arrow Subscriptions are NOT open yet

Candidates will have to wait until we have the last details resolved. As soon as we have an official date, a new document will be released together with the Tournament calendar. There is no need for rush. If you have any questions regarding the rules, please post now - it is the time to make sure everything is clear.

Some G2K2 staff members are also reviewing the documentation.
