First you need to buy a mining bomb for 5 gralat.
Then you need an axe and a hammer, axes wear out on you, but the gold ones last longer. Hammers last forever, gold hammers craft the fastest.

You then go to a mining site (ask someone to show you where) and plant your bomb
then you use the axe to get minerals (what you get depends on the site)

You then take it to the crafting house and use your hammer to craft it, once you get enough of certain kinds of minerals, you can make gralats or other things from it.
