Nickname Changes

We've made a couple changes to how gangs and nicknames work on Era.

Nicknames are now more reliable. When you use setnick (which you can use without waiting 10 seconds now!) to set your nick, the nick will remain even if you reconnect, or if your nick is changed in an event, or whatever.

In addition to that, gang tags are now permanently on for all gang members except in events and spars. We hope this will help make gangs more competitive and visible.

To avoid long names with stuff like "*Accomplice*" in them, we've also removed ranks from gang tags. Ranks are still displayed in a players' profile. This means that you no longer have to deal with setting your nick, then /gangtag, etc. after events. It should be a lot easier since your nick is always set automatically.

To change your nick, you can still just use "setnick".

Staff and business members: to take off your tag, just use "setnick" with no name. We'll probably add a more intuitive way to remove it in the future.

If you've got any questions, I'll be happy to answer them. We're going to see how well this works for a day or two, and then get feedback from the server to see if we should keep it, adjust it, or revert back.

Please hold your whining for at least a day and give this a chance. If the server doesn't like it, it won't be permanent.

Yes, I agree. I like this a lot better, even though I'm not in a gang. I like how the change is for the businesses, it was rather tedious having to reset my name every time I wanted to go on a different tag.

It's way less tedious setting nicks, and now you can't just get off tag and hide when you don't want to raid. It adds more gang representation and unity, as well as making it easier to establish raids and figure out who is online, even for things like Gang Events when you'd have to wait for the gangs to tag up between every round.

It's also realistic, I mean... real life gang members can't just stop being apart of the gang whenever they choose. Quality update.

The only fact I dislike is that my nickname will now be permanently red... which doesn't match ANY of my outfits.

a way to make gang rankings more visible could be to add small badges representing ranks (same badges representing the same "ranks" for all gangs, except the actual rank name will differ depending on the gang) somewhere around the player or something if players want that.

If you really wanted to display ranks, you could just display it below your nick when you hover your mouse over that person. Or all the time, really.

(I realize that's used to see people's account names, but that's what holding 2 is for :P)
