I just upgraded mine to ubuntu 11.04 beta, It's lagging on here too, but the delay is not as long as it was on 10.10. Odd.. I suspect they might improve ALSA performance via pulseaudio on the normal 11.04 release that comes out tomorrow. I'll post if it's any better or not then.

I went back and checked V5 and sound doesn't have any delay but I've had this problem many times with different installs after formatting and reinstalling Linux and mostly had the same problem with new installations but a few of the installs the sound worked without any problems.

V6 seems to be using different sounds when slashing, droping bombs, etc, is this correct?

also, grab gani doesn't show for me, tried to delete it, no change.

The only thing I can think of is that a lot of the sounds were redone on some iphone servers. Of course, the only way for you to have obtained those would've been to actually log onto one, (which I don't know if you have), though I wouldn't think those would've carried over to other servers. Or perhaps I'm completely wrong, and the default/included sound files have changed.

(Chances are I'm completely wrong. lol.)

The sounds haven't changed, may be some server was overwriting them. It's also possible that the sounds sound differently with SDL, like it's doing on Facebook (because it only supports 11,22 and 44 kHz).

Both V5 and V6 seem to have a sound delay for me in both Ubuntu 11.04, and Ubuntu 10.10, on both of my computers. (Which are both pretty slow) V5 had about a 1-2 second delay, while V6 is only about half a second. I also noticed that the sounds seem different too.

44,1 kHz is standard, this is what most people use anyway (nowadays).

that's odd.

since v6 is using the same files as v5, they use the same sounds, nothing is overwritten ( to fix this "overwriting" issue, you could make the default files read-only), so it has to be the SDL library

v6.004 is up for Linux: It contains all the updates which were listed for Windows and Mac, but doesn't auto-update yet, so you have to download it:

Linux 64 bit (default): http://www.graalonline.com/downloads...al_linux64.zip
Linux 32 bit: http://www.graalonline.com/downloads...al_linux32.zip

The V6 client stopped working on my Linux box and when running the client in the Terminal I get this error message:

HTML Code:
michael@ubuntu-notebook:~$ cd ~/.graal/graal4/
michael@ubuntu-notebook:~/.graal/graal4$ ./Graal6.004-32
Direct Rendering is enabled, Graal should run smoothly.
Data directory: /home/michael/.graal/graal4/
This is a beta release of Graal. If it's not working on your computer then please download a new version from http://www.graalonline.com or check out the forums at http://forums.graalonline.com.
michael@ubuntu-notebook:~/.graal/graal4$
I'm assuming that Linux has a new client version but hasn't been uploaded yet? Anyway, as far as I'm aware I have the most current version and even re-downloading the client from graalonline.com still comes up with the same error message.

Just dumped Windows 7 in the trash and got me Ubuntu. It runs way better than Windows. This is also the same with running Graal on Windows. It runs better on Ubuntu.

Sudden closure

I am trying to script a level NPC using FP4's ONLE. I am only typing the word join, and when I finish with typing the letter 'n', it closes. Any ideas? The end of the vid shows the client close.

Add: The following words close the client.
  • join
  • set
  • addweapon
  • showcharacter
  • drawunder/overplayer
  • player (yep, I can hardly script)
  • sendtorc
  • sendtonc

Edit: It's now occuring with the ingame RC, since I can't figure out how to set up the external rc. I can't code very much any more.

That's what I was thinking.

It's now occurring with the client RC scripting screen, and I can hardly script. I need some help on setting up the external RC

Pardon the double post. I can't edit the other one. When logging onto Maloria, it brings you to the starting screen with the menu right? Well, when you press the space bar to enter the game, the client just closes. Also, the closing of the client while using the script editor is definitely down to the syntax highlighting, and is getting VERY annoying.

I don't know why it would crash on that, haven't experienced that at all yet. Is it only happening on certain scripts or always?
We could disable the syntax highlighting for you for now if you want.

If I am using the white script editor background window, then it will always crash with certain words. Although, if I start the line or script with // or /*, then it won't crash. It's not even a crash, it just closes instantly.

Just throwing this out there, but there seems to be garbage collection issues when there are large amounts (20k?) of TStaticVars.

It seems like it decides to do the GC cycle whenever you click the mouse or move the mouse out of the screen, and the TStaticVars all survive until that cycle, then the CPU is pegged at full load for ages.

Of course, the solution is to manually destroy() the TStaticVar when it is no longer needed, but I feel like there should be nicer GC being done that doesn't choke entirely on what is not a large amount of memory usage.

The graal garbage collector is going quite deep (makes full circular reference check) that's why it might be slower with lots of variables. It is recommended to destroy the variables if not needed.

Since Era Radio has just released itself, a new bug has become apparent. V6 can't receive any radio signal. Nothing plays over radio, although V5 plays Era Radio perfectly.

Yes the Linux and Mac versions don't support streaming yet. There is no 64bit version of the sound library we were using before x-x

Ah and you run Graal on it? It's 5-6 years since the last 32 bit Intel/AMD CPUs were produced

Well anyway:
A new version for Linux (64 bit) has been uploaded: v6.037
It brings a lot of new stuff since the last v6 release and of course plenty of new things compared to v5. Download it as usual from the website although the download from login server should work if you have installed it as user:

http://www.graalonline.com/downloads/Graal6_linux64.zip

This new version is not scanning the current folder anymore, so it should be much easier to just put it anywhere and then run it. Unzip the file, make it executable, then run it:

unzip Graal6_linux64.zip
chmod 775 Graal
./Graal

All files will be download and saved to ~/.graal/graal4 in case you want to clear them or need to find the screenshots or recorded videos. The new version is using "SDL mixer" for playing sounds and music. Depending on the hardware and drivers this should work pretty well, but if there are problems then just disable sounds or music in the options on the login server.
