Babylon Mainfiles Issue

Hello, we at Babylon have had a somewhat critical (albeit workaroundable) problem with our files. Despite not noticing this for a good month, after I've had to reinstall Graal I noticed the default files were not loading on Babylon. The only way for me to actually gain access to them is going onto other servers. At first assuming this was a personal issue, I had Grey delete his images and the same problem happened.

I've located the actual files via /finddef, and they ARE turning up search results on the server, (although I'm not sure if mainfiles are actually saved on servers or are just open to access via graal's servers?) so we are not sure what the actual problem is. We also thought that maybe the problem may be with the physical server that Babylon is on, though we couldn't find any other posts of this nature on the forums and nobody else has seemed to complain about it. I also tried adding to my rights rw levels/mainfiles/gifs/* but as I thought access isn't permitted to the folder, and it was auto-removed.

It's pretty frustrating considering if new players ever happened upon Babylon before any other server, a lot of *key* images would not be showing up. It's possible we could reupload the images in our domestic image folders but it's probable that we'll miss a few here and there we'd rather tackle the problem head-on. I'd also like to note that it's ONLY images in mainfiles/gifs, as ganis still seem to all appear.

Anybody got any ideas?

I've seen the a similar problem on a few other servers, like UN dev. Some how, UN dev's default sword gani was overwritten by a bugged version(didn't return to idle). There was no existence of any sword.gani(which it indeed was), except for in the mainfile folder. There was no bugged version downloaded on my PC either. However, uploading a fixed version into their ganis folder fixed it. I should mention that the broken sword only occurred on the UN dev server.

This has happened with "hurt" and some other GANIs on Era Dev; they didn't return to idle. We ended up creating "era_hurt.gani" (since it affected everyone who logged on) which is just a copy of the default one.

You don't happen to know if UN Dev went down, and had a backup restored? Another theory of ours is that the files weren't carried down with the backup after the Playerworld server was cleared of files. This still, of course, doesn't explain the search results still appearing normal, and it doesn't explain it if mainfiles are held on Graal's servers instead of actual playerworlds.

It would only make sense for mainfiles to just be an alias for an outside folder. There are 140 servers right now, and I would guess the default files are about ~10 MB.

Well, not all those servers are on one physical server, but yes, I'm fairly sure that's what mainfiles is.

This seems like it would be a pretty major bug, and considering that it seems just about everything in mainfiles is either missing of bugged it wouldn't be reasonable to just upload them onto Babylon.

On a related note, i've noticed that mainfile hats are not downloading on Classic, doing a /find within RC is giving:
mainfiles/gifs/hats/hat35.png: not downloadable, 3681 byte, 2002-09-13 07:03:27
etc.

No idea how long this has been the case for, have only just noticed this having cleaned out my Graal folder for the first time in 2 and a half years and not previously requiring to download hats, though i've never recieved reports of hats not loading.

Edit:
Never mind, adding -
file mainfiles/gifs/hats/hat*.png
file mainfiles/gifs/hats/hat*.mng
To folder configuration has fixed this, possible fix to what is mentioned above?

We've tried it before, and I tried it again, but it doesn't seem to work.

file mainfiles/gifs/*.*

Put that in folder configs but still no dice. I find it so weird it's relative to ONLY like folder. Mainfile hats, which are found in a sub-folder in the gifs folder still show up. It's only things directly in the gifs folder. (oddly enough they also all have the extension png despite being in the gifs folder, however I highly doubt this is relevant) I'm hoping to get this fixed sometime soon but there doesn't seem to be any solution that can be applied from my side. I've tried just about everything. It's really annoying having no buttons on my Client RC.
