why are all you developers making terrible non-classic servers?

not sure about a lot of you guys, but i have only ever enjoyed graal when it was on a classic-type server, where it seems very zeldaesque, and everyone is on a equal playing field with just swords, and maybe some NPC using scrub from some garbage local guild.

so why are we going away from these types of servers? what is so appealing to so many failed UC servers that we expand off the most basic of graal's elements into the terrible game play of some era or zodiac type server, where the standard for equal is not in terms of skill, but in time spent online and experience points. i can't see why no one has had any motivation to instead create the ultimate classic server, one that would bring about the full and simple potential of what graal is: a link to the past, except online.

Maybe you think it is so terrible, But as you can see a lot of people like these servers.

If you don't like them, Dont play them.. You like classic servers, others like modern servers or whatever.

I was going to make a thread like this last week but a bit more in depth, didn't have the time though. I'll elaborate when I do have time, but I think it mainly comes down to sustainability and ease of development; a bleak future for the 'Classic' genre.

Some of us get tired of the standard gameplay and want something different. Normally the response to this would be events but those get boring too. I don't mind RPG servers, it's just that Zodiad has such **** quality.

I love Classic, but I love Zodiac too (just needs better graphics).
I dont like servers like Zone, or Era, but lots of people do.
I do miss the old Classic though, when it was the only server, but those days are gone because the community is gone. It can never be the same.

Name one good classic server. One good classic server that exists today.

At least the modern or rpg themed servers offer something to do. Granted, it's either lame run and gun or constant grinding and random drops, but at least that's something besides events. What's Classic got? Couple events, yawn. How about UN? I wouldn't even that classic (or good!). Quit complaining about bad "theme" servers. They've got more to do than the current lineup of "classic" servers.

sparring and PKing is infinitely more interesting and fun than grinding. having grinding servers isn't really going to bring in players as it used too with the old way that graal was advertised and seen as, which makes it pretty unique in terms of simple MMOs.

the problem is that whats being developed is isn't all that good even looking at a server like zodiac or era, because it obviously isn't making more people want to play on the scale that it once was. the classic graal servers on the other hand, are poorly influenced by the upper tier of developers - not to say that any staff are bad, but the direction they are facing and molding into are different than what's needed. and it seems no one is going to try to get it right anymore, and we can settle with whats already there.

i think the solution is to make two types of servers, one with changing quests and adventures such as what the older classic servers presented, another with a high degree of sparring and guild wars dedication to help create leagues or tournaments. either one will offer back what graal's core elements were meant for. a ton of scripts don't necessarily result in a good server. sparring and PKing doesn't require much, if you have good levelers to change things up on a more regular basis.

and what's the solution then? keep making themed servers because all the server will suck anyways? that is just what i said we were already doing, settling for whats already there.

if you have an opinion on a way to make servers in general better, please post it so some support could get behind it. otherwise, don't point the blame to "servers in general" because that doesn't help anything. i think my idea can at least have some reminiscence of the past to draw in the community that is already there, sitting dormant on the current classic servers with "nothing to do but PK and spar" which is not the same thing as what i was talking about; idle and endless PKing with no clear winner, and constant sparring are not the same as leagues and guild wars.

i'm also not suggesting we leave servers like zodiac and era in the dust - they still have active communities. but, the classic community is still there, it's just bored to death, and no one is creating and hosting things that they enjoy. if we presented it to a few of them, more will come if it's what they're looking for. not to say it will be the same, but it will create something if done correctly.

Delteria Period.

There is still a few servers out there that are still heading in this classic direction. Delteria in my opinion will be the greatest classic server that graal has even encountered. Other servers such as Zodiac are based off other games like wow and Graal was based of zelda. So I guess Our inspiration has to come from somewhere.
