To be honest, I say go with a system that uses large numbers, even if you just take your current formula's and multiple them. Why? Because people like to see their characters associated with big numbers.

Seems like I can't get the server done on my own, and no one (other then scripters, gah) seems to want to help. So, I'm putting it on hold until further notice. I don't want to waste more time on something that only I'm interested in fulfilling.

My point is that I do not feel like working on something when I'm the only one doing so. It means I'll reach a certain limit where I'll be stuck due to not having enough levels/graphics, and that's really not my area of expertise and I'd prefer to stay clear of it.

Meh, ignore my previous statements, the only thing they lead too was me getting more work completed. Among those, I fixed up the dueling system, cleaned up some code in general, and implanted a level up system. More to come I guess, shame only scripting is getting any progress though.

Thanks to Stefan who raised the download limit, I've added all the music composed by Oinkness, as well as fine tuned some more systems (including the sound system). What's best with this update, is that the combat system have a battle song, now if only I had a win/lose theme...

Also added a message log WIP, that most definitely won't look like it does now when it's finished. Soon to be fulfilled!

And finally, I've re-enabled automated forum registration for everyone that logon. Me and Segfault added a MOTD system that includes a "Feedback" function that post the data you submit on the forums with your forum account.

Combat system is released, once and for all!

If you logon, create a character, then login with it - you'll see a NPC giving you instructions on how to enter combat.

Currently you will face as many baddies as there are players in your party (party system not released yet) and they will be the same level as your party leader. They will have randomized looks, and randomized stats between 3 and 21. If you beat them everyone in your party will level up, if not, try again!

Exp system will probably not be released until we get this town ready and open it up, so if you're willing to help with levels or graphics - get in touch!

By the looks of it, it'll take quite some time before it can be considered playable for longer than a minute or two.

Combat might become more interesting as stuff is added though.

We're going with the approach not to release much of anything until we get this town 100% finished (or close to it), which will take some time - one third of it have been tiled so far, and insides need to be made, as well as detailing it with NPC's and various effects. Indeed. Combat system is the one system that will be opened for players all the time, and both PvE and PvP combat is enabled for players. There's two bugs that I'll fix today:
  • Not removing objects from the attack queue if they die after they've submit their next move.
  • Not auto changing target to another one if current target dies after an attack have been made.

But yeah, the combat system will receive a lot of updates for a while, skills etc. will be implemented really soon.

I got killed by the level one baddy in the combat test by a large margin. But its cool to see a turn base system in Graal. Keep it up!

Well, Deek is back with us again, and have completed the scenery he started on long ago. I'll attach it for everyone to see, it'll be implemented in-game as soon as I can resubscribe again (duh -.-), or I'll have Segfault to do it.

We're not really hiring anything special at the moment, but good Level Designer/Graphic Artist applications will always be considered. We have one third of the main town finished, to an extent.

I liked it better when it was a WIP It looked better with blades of grass sticking up every so often. Now it just looks really busy.

This might be pushing my luck a bit, since I know maybe 1 of you will do it, but...

In all honestly, we need suggestions for new things. It'd help if nothing else. What would you want to do on a server that's not focus on PvE, nor PvP, but exploring, questing and roleplaying? Sure, PvE and PvP elements WILL be there, but I'm not sure it's the main path I want to take with this project. I want to create a world that gradually changes itself based upon players decisions, and I'll be damned if I can't achieve that goal.

Anyways... most of our staff doesn't read these forums frequently, if at all. So what I'd like to ask, is for you to spare a moment and either use the Feedback function in-game (it auto posts what you submit on our forums) or visit our forums yourself and make a thread.

I love your ideas for this server, I just don't really know about a Final Fantasy style battle system. UN has or had one and it didn't get much appreciation after a week of it's release. I got to around level 6, then quit.

Also, It seems like it would interfere with player interaction since you go into a different screen while you're leveling. I'm personally not a big fan of those kind of games becoming mmos. But keep up the good work.

UN hardly revolve the whole server around a fantasy theme though. We do.

I've been wondering about that one myself, and have come to the conclusion that spawning a non-blocking NPC at the spot the player was before the combat, with the same looks and a name like "MyName (In Combat)" that will either despawn if the player in question logs off, or leaves combat might be the best idea.

LOL, UH. I didn't put any points at all into strength and only a few into constitution, maybe that's why. I wanted to make a mage character, not a warrior. But it was probably a better idea to go for warrior since the server isn't complete. I just wasn't thinking about that at the time.

True, but do you think that if they made a dungeon like Zodiacs, it wouldn't get used? It probably would have, but the pvp system is with graal's swords and not custom weapons, so that's more than likely why they went for that type of battle system instead.

Looks nice. I think you need to work on perspective though, and maybe lighting.

You axe is rather an odd specacle, the bottommost blade coming out of the bottom side of the stick of wood and somehow coming towards you.

Also, you have lighting come from all sorts of places O_O on the grass the lights coming from the west, on the man its coming from the east, from the words its coming from the south.

But I like the effort

/cheer and all that, the server is finally back to being named Mythic Legends. Oh how I've waited and longed for this moment...

Anyways, we're looking for a bit of a help.


Character Equipment/Sprites - Self-explanatory. Your job would be to create custom looks on sprites, new hairs, clothing equipment etc.
Icons - You'd be making 32x32 icons for currently existing items, spells and even skills/talents.
GUI's - The dreadful default GUI's need to be replaced, are you creative enough for it?
Interior and/or Exterior decorations - We're at a stage where inside levels are getting rapidly done, and the town is slowly getting bigger and bigger. However, while we might have tiles, we don't have anything to fill the levels with. That's where you come in! You'd get more or less free hands, but if anything is requested, why not do it right?
Tiles - The oh so glorious task of creating more tiles. Interested?


Any of the above are up for grabs. If you don't want a steady job, and just want to help here and there - that's fine. We can provide you with boots to get around the normally sealed off town, as well as a limited RC for uploading. If you do want to be actually hired with any of the above tasks as main priority, then even better.

Not hiring any coders, and doubtfully level makers - depends on how good you are.

All/most core systems are done, now it's just the visual part left before we're ready to rock. And trust me, we'll rock - heavy metal style!
