Unhappy Graal Bomy Lands

I would really like to know. Are we saying good-bye to Graal Bomy Lands (Graal 2001). I dont really want to see it go just because I think the server has potential. If it has to be it has to be then I would say /wave Graal2001.

Can you briefly sum up the differences between the two projects?

Bomy Lands was a revision using most of Graal2001's current content in conjunction with newly formed updates and new kingdoms. This developed essentially to be a continuation of Graal2001.

Bomy Island is a complete rehaul including a new tileset and scripting changes to basically recreate 2k1. It's basically a retcon.

How exactly do you feel it was "originally intended"? Only the people who managed or developed the server know how it was intended to be.

Camelback's always been powerhungry. Just assume anything he says is probably an empty idea he thinks will secure him some power.

Gryffon's an idiot. Im not looking for what he calls "Power". Im looking to revive the server back to way it should have been. I want to put it back the way it was. Having it show the way I experienced it back in 2002 when I first played there.

The pot calling the kettle black.

The way you experienced it on 2002 can never be brought back. NOBODY is going to play on 2k1 if it's just the same old 2k1 with nothing new and exciting.

It was exciting at that time because new things were happening and the server was incredibly popular and content was being developed and it was the year 2002. You can't revive something four years later and expect everyone to enjoy it as much as they did when it was new.

It'd be like Nintendo re-releasing the N64 with Mario 64 for full price. Who the hell would want to play it? Either you've played it to death, or you've played something better.

If you want to play the "I was here first, I know what's best card" I'd recommend that you check further.

People always think they want the nostalgia, but they really just want an incredible simulation.

If you want to get into details...

I started playing on the server a few months after it's release back in 2001. Back before 70% of the overworld stuff was even there. I was there for all the content releases, such as the new events, new items, store restocking... I saw what direction 2k1 should have been taking and what direction it ended up taking.

I developed content for the server. I was responsible for the apple pie baking, the snowcone making, and the marketplace. (though now I kind of wish I didn't make the snowcone job) As well as the villas, though they never really got far because I left shortly after.

I managed the server at one point in time.

I stopped managing it because of creative differences. I didn't like the way 2k1 was going. We all know how it ended up of course... dead as a rock.

Back when I first started playing was when 2k1 was the most fun... Back before 2002. The reason was because Stefan was adding new fun stuff every day. There was no real focus on kingdoms at the time. It was just Stefan adding things like the catch net, hosting events, adding new instruments... stuff like that.

I believe 2k1 was originally meant to be more solid and not so loosely based. Stefan had the NPCs doing things based on time of day, and he seemed mostly concerned with updating fun new things like new items and stuff. It just seemed like the direction 2k1 should have taken was that it should have had more quests added, more fun items... having kingdoms get involved slowly but not overpowering the entire server in terms of importance. Not having the entire server revolve around hats... A more stable economy that didn't base new item prices on whatever the value of a gralat might have been at that time. Less focus on new jobs and more focus on improving the old ones to make them less repetitive.

More focus on the fun things like horse riding, bomy pets, riding the elephant, multiplayer quests, holiday events, interacting with the environment... etc

Instead 2k1 turned into birdbirdfest with hundreds of light/npc filled, oddly tiled levels... total focus on jobs and hats. Playerhouse owners who were like Bill Gates because they made nonstop massive profit from owning a house. Crap like zalactic labs and the introduction of extremely advanced technology which didn't fit into the time period at all. The bomy moon crashing and taking up an enormous amount of space for a silly little speed boot quest and a terrible storyline. Godawful hat recolors... etc

The problem with 2k1 is that once Stefan gave his staff too much freedom, they turned it into a mess. Birdbird didn't need to infest all of his levels with npcs of himself, or signs with his face in them, or things named after him. It was egotistical and screwed up the gaming experience. I admit to doing it myself... only one time, with the Konquence thing. The game should feel more professional and less like kids made it... Stefan knew what he was doing but then he grew bored of the project and let others take it over... and it went downhill.

Only you arent releasing it at a full price. Since the PW is classic, it would be like them releasing it as a free download on their new Next GEN system.. only with new things added to make it re-exciting.

I know I would do it!

I've been critical of Konidias in the past but he's right. People don't want 2k1 back they want how they felt and the newness of everything they once experienced back. That's why the server has failed multiple times.
The only way 2k1 has any chance of comming back is to completely redisgn the server and use only the concept of 2k1 none of the original content maybe even loosly the story lines. But not the exact story lines themselves or the world will quickly stagnate into what it once was.
There aren't many people who I think could do a decent job of remaking the server but if I was going to back some one it would be Konidias assuming he follows through with it would be my only concern.
Konidias has great ideas with skills that can help make them happen. I just hope he has the strength to see it through to the end.
I haven't really kept tabs on the remake but if you have bomy pets and the like you should finish the Bomy Battling you started working on years ago before you resigned as staff.
As for the ego thing there are several things with your name on them one other comming to mind is that one death match game just north of the amdin house but that is neither here nor there and has nothing to do with the primary topic of the post.
