Graal's next Big thing!

Hello All!

I'm bored and it's late and I've come to wonder... What is Graal's next Important Release? A new GraalShop, Update Engine Commands, The Online Level Editor, what? =P So, Stefan/Stéphane what is next? I'm sure Graal's Whole community has some Excellent Ideas. I for one would like a "Online/Offline Level Editor that can read and use GS2 Properly" That would be my Golden Toilet Seat! =P So c'mon Graal's Community, put in your two cents like I just did.

Also in GraalShop make so you can add scripts through it. Not by opening wordpad and stuff!

Linux is lucky enough to have an RC that is functional and worth using. An RC for Mac would be much appreciated.

I have to say I hope for a new version of Graalshop. As much as I like this new opening time (Which was what I hated the most about the old one) I have to say I want a few improvements.

-A better way to include sprites. Really, its annoying to set the X and Y and the like.
-Individual direction frames. Should be an option on the side.
-Loop commands. To loop all or just a few frames, etc.
-Light effects to actually show up in Graalshop. I find ganiing with light effects quite annoying because half the time you can't see where you're putting them.

The amazing thing about Graal though is you can make it what you want. Not just to Tom, but there's a reason the graalediotr and stuff is out there. I just wish they become better and more "user" friendly

They need to add layers and such in Graal Editor. That would own 49289482%

Graal 3D most likely. I dont understand that though. No ones going to play it. They are probably going to jack up the prices again which is going to make people not want to play it even more. Why play graal 3D when you can play a MMORPG like Everquest or WoW. People don't play graal for the graphics as you all know. I think Cyberjouers is in over its head releasing something like graal 3D. They need to just spend their time making Gold servers better.

Or they could try making an actually GOOD 3D engine...with GOOD graphics -.-

Cause if Graal 3D is gonna look and work anything like what it does now, I think it will be crap.

Wait wait wait. I have an idea.

They could keep the software... exactly as it is! And instead of constantly adding new development features... they could USE the tools they already have to develop things that normally appear in a video game! You know, like quests, missions, a storyline... Then maybe I can stop chatting and PKing with nerds and start going on challenging missions and quests! Then my Graal life would have purpose!

it's like you know what i am making with my server, Argos!
give people something to do besides pk and attempt to hack w/e
reward them for exploring etc.

the only thing is i gota learn to do it mostly myself
becasue, as i am sure many other private pw owners know,
the cycle 95% or more of the time is:
1. person wants to be staff, you review and if you decide to hire them
2. you give the person a task and they do it, and perhaps a few more tasks
3. the person knows of the dozens and dozens of other private playerworlds and goes on to one of them - or now that their skills are better from helping you out, they get hired on a hosted or classic tab server
4. they become inactive and either never bother to log in rc on your server again or if they are polite they will tell you that they quit

and the real stinker is that the server owner ends up finishing half-done projects of any type - levels, npcs, graphics, ganis, quests, whatever they may be.

You just gotta accept that if you buy (rent) a gserver space that you should expect to do almost all the aspects of it - levels, npcs, graphics, ganis, whatever it needs - pretty much by yourself.
levels and graphics can be made offline, then when you get to making the npcs, that is the time to get a server becasue gs2 does not work offline - every other part of development does work offline.

even when making Sanstrata half a decade ago, when you could make everything offline and there was not gserver, we made like 75% of the levels npcs quests and story offline, then through the right connections, got it hosted. there is a certain distraction level to developing a server online, becasue people from other servers can message you, or when a new player logs in to your osl, you can say hi to them or they will ask to be staff, etc.

anyways ... ya watch my argos server, its gona rock your socks off when it gets ready to be hosted. which may be sometime this summer.

Graal3D already has non-winter tiles. However, the preview server is a Christmas (y'know, winter) preview.

The currently developed version of Graal3D is much improved, and is being actively developed.

I hope it at least has somewhat better graphics than the winter preview. And more fluid movement, not as glitchy, etc, etc.

At the least, I hope its better.

I think it will take a lot of time to get anything people will want, and I doubt anything made (however cool) will be that popular as it takes far more time to get the same amount of content into 3D.

The funny thing is that people assume graal still has anything big left.

Graal is on life support. It has no more surprises yet. Everybody is either too lazy or too unfocused to get anything done. myself included

I'd like to see a world much like Relic or Oasis released. If no one would consider start such playerworld project again, I might take a crack at it myself.

Well, besides the many updates on Era, Classic, Maloria etc., we are also preparing some big things (3D, improved global event tools), and plan quite big updates for Graal Kingdoms.

WOW UPDATES FOR ERA, CLASSIC AND MALORIA O JOY STEFAN THOSE ARE THE GREATEST THINGS EVER (30% chance of them even happening). O wait nvm those updates are usually very small and only amuseing for what a good 20min tops? We want a HUUUUUGEEE change to gameplay outa one of these servers bud if you havnt noticed. Dear god, I swear you are completely blind to what is happening on your own damn game.

..Yea I just had to let that out cause Im effing pissed and bored outa my mind waiting for someone out there to open their eyes. Fact is Graal Sucks balls at the moment and somthing HUGE needs to change. (Im not one of the people who is going say somthing positive just because your "Stefan" because seriously that means nothing to me...give me somthing positive to say, I dont see a lot of it)

"Many updates" being playerhouses, "big things" being vaporware, and "Graal Kingdoms" being the biggest joke this side of SWG.

Face it, the community is the only reason Graal's been alive so long, and the community is pretty much dead.

I agree that the community has kept this game alive, aside from the fact that once you pay the initial fee that you don't have to pay monthly fees anymore, helps a ton.

What you do have to understand is that Graal Online is a very small business, it does not have a team of developers; so development is slow. If there were financial mistakes made it probably hurt them dearly.

It is unfortunate that Stefan is the only coder on the team or they could of really had something by now because they were around before the huge MMO boom. SWG/WoW/FFXI/Guild Wars/ect.

As for SWG, I've been around since day one and seen plenty of uproars in the community along with extended downtime. the NGE that was released really hurt the game since so much was changed; it wasn't the game the current player base got comfortable with, but they did it because they wanted a fresh community with a small learning curve. Part of WoWs major sucess is that they had it right the first time, and are very careful not to introduce huge change to the game to make their current playerbase run away.

But if Graal Online decides to change the game totally to bring in new blood, I wish them the best.

So please do not compaire a Enterprise mistake such as SWG, with a small businesses ability to pay for qualified staff. I am sure if they had the investors that they could make a very sucessful product.
