Requesting clarification regarding the rule against external links

Quote:
c) You are not permitted to make external links if they are not pointing to a Graal site (wiki.graal.net , graal.net, graalonline.com ) . In some very rare cases, we may accept some links after being approved by a administrator or super moderator.
  • Does this also disallow links to graal related sites? Like the Graal wiki and playerworld sites.
    • Can we get links to pages on the Graal Wiki approved in general, please?
  • Does this also disallow links to player-made content on the GraalBible?
  • Does this also disallow links to player-made sites on vip.graal.net?
  • Does this also apply to images, using the img-tag?
  • Can we expect links that have been posted outside of NGRT before this rule came into effect to be approved by the administration? Otherwise, will quoting posts containing such links be illegal as well?

If you read that quote again, you will see that Links to the Graal wiki is allowed (wiki.graal.net)

As for all the rest, Unixmad will have to answer, as we did not discuss this rule. He wanted it added, and therefore, added it.

I do think that the rule should be that if it is Graal related, and has no links within it to innapropriate sites, or has no inappropriate content, that it should be allowed. Such as websites for playerworlds.

I think the rule is for all links not Graal related period.
I will have to clarify, but probably wont get a chance to talk to Unix until next week, as he generally doesn't get on ICQ on weekends.
I will type up an email, however, with unanswered questions, and point to this link.

It's a horrible rule.

If a player is developing a rule that's not yet online, they would have to upload it to the Graal Forums rather than their own site. This gives Graal the chance to do anything to those images.

This would mean that we couldn't make nice and organized graphical posts. Rather, it all has to be stacked all ugly with the attachments.

If linking to other sites is illegal, why are we allowed to have offsite signatures?

Well no one's complained, not even unixmad. So I'm a bit skeptical (i think thats the word you're supposed to use in this kind of situation?).

I would also really love to get an explanation for this rule's necessity. For years people have uploaded gfx links to be rated, connections to funny sites, had elaborate sigs that are pleasing to the eye, and witty comebacks involving links. Why, now, is this suddenly being frowned upon?

Question to Moonie:

Most images that I create for my sig / avatar / etc. come from a non-graal website. Will someone be knocking at my door for me to remove them, or what? If so, that's going to quickly develop into a problem for many users and moderators alike. (Because mods are going to have to do a lot of work to enforce that rule.) The rule about not having offensive images in sigs and whatnot is perfectly understandable, but ones from offsite pages seems a little... I dunno... Ill thought-out.

I don't think that he meant the sigs. I think he simply meant direct, clickable links to websites.
When you click on a pic in a sig, it noramlly doesnt take you to a website, unless you set it up to do so, correct?

Hmmm I for a long time have had links to the Dark rival website, and forums, as well as graal bible, and a link to Dark Rival. These are graal related, but not all officially graal, what about such sites?

As I said earlier, I will have to speak to Unix about that, because I'm not sure. I am hoping that it will be allowed as long as it is websites for playerworlds and such, as long as the content on said websites is appropriate.

But remember that time a bunch of people started using an image that Lycia or someone uploaded on their personal webspace and she change it to a pornographic image?

Yep yep. The rules say no non-graal links. Get rid of them all.

But, how many times has that happened?
People should be able to at least use their vip space for their sigs, if nothing else.

That rule honestly has to be one of the worst in graal forum history.

No links to other website? Only links allowed are graal related?

There isn't even anything to really talk about regarding graal lately, it's just making the forum more dead than it already is.

VIP hosting is dead. I've been waiting for my VIP webspace to be activated for months now. Unixmad said I would know when the adding of new webspace users would be back up and I haven't heard anything yet... No new members can be added. How is that fair?... And what about gold members? They just don't get a signature?

Its automatically setup I beleive, because around january I set one up, I just applied for it, and viola, it was there. I never got an email or anything about the VIP webhosting I dont think, and all you have to do is connect to it via a FTP program. (btw, that php alternative thing to ftp doesnt work, it always gives some error, I sent an email, never got a reply)

Unixmad,

If the NGRT goes downhill and all remote linking, etc, is gone...Then I'm gone as well.

The only reason I pay you my hard earned American dollars is to have the privelege of arguing with the lunatics of the NGRT. Take it away, and I'm history.

If you want a subscription renewal, you best not touch it.

I SUPPORT THE NGRT...Do you?

Thanks,

He said pretty clearly that links to outside sources are banned. Don't pick which rules to follow and enforce. If you want the rule changed, put it on the helpdesk, but in the mean time, enforce the rules which are currently in place.

Honestly, I don't see why these forums have such strict rules when it's not even so active. There is no point in making more strict rules. People will always do stupid things on a forum even if you have absurd strict rules.

That's why we have moderators...oh wait.

I said it before, I will say it again.
I am not clear on the rule, nor are the members. I will enforce the rule when I am absolutely clear on it.
The only thing I am clear on, is that you cannot post a clickable link to anything that is not Graal related, but I am not clear on what that exactly means. Meaning, I dont know if Unix wishes to let members have links to their PW sites, or other things that are Graal related.
When I am clear, I will enforce.

I am hoping that when the new NGRT is finished, that non-graal related links will be allowed there.

Yup, I do, and I'm more than willing to provide my support as a crazed user in the NGRT
Graal's a community, but if you cut off outside access, people might have to leave the community
Anyway, I doubt that they'll be to strict about this, it's too foolish. I can understand wishing to block pornography, but thats like saying "the internet is the devil, its nothing but a sex-ed machine"

Anyway, I doubt that they'll be to strict about this, it's too foolish. I can understand wishing to block pornography, but thats like saying "the internet is the devil, its nothing but a sex-ed machine"
You don't seem to understand. The NGRT is not being taken away, it is simply being moved away from the main forum, and will, if I understood Unixmad correctly, have more relaxed rules.

I don't get why some people don't read all posts regarding an issue.
As I have said more than once: When the NGRT is moved to the private section, it will have more relaxed rules. Unixmad does NOT want external links on the main forums, and hopefully he will allow them in the NEW NGRT.

I dont get why some supermods make silly assumptions

I read all the posts and all you keep saying is you have no idea what will happen, based on you saying that, why am I not allowed to voice my concern?

What supermod? If you are referring to myself, I am forums admin.
I didn't see an concern per say, you said this:

When I read this, I took it as you saying more relaxed rules meant no posting external links. Which is not what was said, or implied.
Unixmad never said the main forums would have more relaxed rules, only the new NGRT when it is finished.
Maybe I am confused as to what you meant by that post?

What?
This is something new that Unixmad is doing, so yes, I have questions.
I only know what Unixmad tells me.

Sorry your name is still in blue, so I assumed since you are still boasting the supermod colors, your forums admin position is not yet official as well.

So i did not say "Hey guys I am concerned that we are not allowed to post exernal links, and that I think this is going to spill into the relaxed forums"

The rule stated that we are not allowed to use external links anywhere on the forums, as I understand it this "Relaxed" Forum, will still be a forum. There was my concern.

Have you even read the rule? I know you have to have seen it at least once by now, it says No external links on graal forums, this relaxed forum will still be a GRAAL FORUM.

I hope i am a bit more clear this time.
