A word or two about speed hacking.

Recently, you may have heard a rumour than I speed hack, this is sort of like the rumor from about a year ago that I item hacked to get my Golden Shovel but is also different in that I didn't start this one.

HISTORY OF SPEED HACKING

Back in 2001 when everyone still played Graal2001, a mysterious ability began appearing among the miners of Graal2001. This was identified to me as being a "speed patch", I promptly notified people on the forums (http://forums.graalonline.com/forums...ad.php?t=19921) (Note the poor spelling and use of outdated lingo as proof of age). This "speed patch" eventually became known as a "speed hack" and became a great scourge of Graal2001 and many people were banned for using it. Fast forward a few years to today.

GOOGI, SPEED HACKING AND YOU!

Googi is really, really, really fast. That's because I did a bunch of quests can got a bunch of gold keys with I traded for things like RoTs and a Speed Amulet. I even did more quests and got 6 dex potions I used to Improve Dex. Potion my Magnifying Glass twice, so it gave me Dex+3 instead of Dex+1 (Shameless plug: I'm trading a White Wiz Hat +2 and 6 Gold Keys for a White Wiz +12, if you have one, you can trade it and get enough Dex Potions for your OWN badass Magnifying Glass). I further maximize my speed by sacrificing protection and not wearing any armour that would slow me down.

AN IDEA OF JUST HOW FAST GOOGI IS

Things faster than Googi
Light
Moonite
Kai's thinking

Things slower than Googi:
The Hare from "The Tortoise and the Hare"
Perdita Felicien
You

PROOF GOOGI DOESN'T SPEED HACK

Because of all the trouble on 2K1, there are now speed logs on 2K2. If I were speed hacking, they would have picked it up.

SHORT VERSION

Listening to Drk is bad.

You dont have 30 strength and you dont have RoW's, yet you were running around with a helmet and a shield that dont add speed, going around looking like you were going 6 or 7+ speed.

I'm not saying you're hacking, but its fishy.

Strength only effects speed if you're carrying too much stuff or if you're wearing armour that slows you down.

Oh, really, Googi? I have 5.333 speed everyday, and that's with Dustari boots on, not Samurai Boots of Haste. And you go about 2x faster then me, It's not lag, because your moving smoothly, your just going insanely fast. Face it.. Myself, Marion Hunter, Juggernaut, Tig, Plas, SyL, Oasa.. Many more, there were tons of people in trade, today, who saw you going like 8.0. Quit the charade.

If Googi was speed hacking, they would have banned her by now cause logs would show up.

Perhaps she have a good computer? You know, sometimes my speed raises strangely... I mainly have 5.3-5.6, but it raises to 5.8 sometimes. It's weird.

Having a good computer and high speed effects as well... like if you ran Graal on a powerful gaming machine, hell you'll be as fast as lightning.{Tested it on brothers computer}

If you get low FPS you will move slower, it's more of the video card... I guess. When I had my ATI 5600 or whatever it was I moved slow as Hell.

I'm assuming here that your computer can reach the standard 20fps. If you can match that, no amount of processing power is going to change your speed.

You can SLOW DOWN if you have a ****ty graphics card, but if you have a GOD-LIKE one or just a GOOD one it wont make you faster. My friend lent me his 9800pro. I have a 7500le PCI, no difference.

I'd say Moonite is hacking before I'd say Googi is. Moonite is moving like one third the speed of light. His items rock, or something.

GK runs better on my Crappy Intel card then it does on my GeForce FX 5200...go figure.

You're correct, Akira. Here's my specs.. 3.0 pent. 4 cpu, ATI radeon 9800 video card, specialty gaming motherboard with the 8x agp slots, windows xp... I get about 200- FPS on CnC Renegade.. I HAVE a gaming machine. My speed is the same as hers, and she goes 2x faster then me. She says it's because her Mag is 2x improve dex and she has 30 dex, well Gambet saw her yesterday going her 8.0 speed with her GE out. Take it for what it's worth, but don't blame the computer people, as my comp can easily run doom 3, let-alone Grawl. Heh.

*EDIT* And logs always show the truth? How come one of the admins at the time told me iSplash's logs weren't showing up all the time? Hmm..

You do know that with speed hacking programs you can toggle them on/off and you can also set what speed you want travel? I guess you didnt.

You do realize that speed hacking sets the GRAAL CLIENT speed, and on GK speed is controlled by a string? I guess you didn't.

Do you think there are no string setting hacks? You must really be mistaken.

Besides, I'm not saying she set her speed to the speed she has now. I'm saying that its possible to use a program to set your speed (WITHOUT IT EFFECTING YOUR REGULAR SPEED COUNT).

Yeap, you're right. There sure are! But that's why Stefan thought..." What if we had strings that would be sent to the client... but wouldn't be sent back to the server?" We call them clientr.strings, and they prevent people from changing a lot of different things - such as how much plat you have, how many swords you have, how fast you travel, and even how many dogs you own.

It's possible to go 8 speed and only have 5 speed on the server. Its called trainers. There is no security system that cannot be breached, and well, Graal doesnt have the best security system(s). Where there are unfair players, there will be trainers. The best you can do is keep patching them and try to make it harder for them to bypass the systems.

You're right, there is no security system which cannot be beaton (in theory).

You should refer to what I said earlier, most trainers are made for playerworlds - and playerworlds, for the most part, use the built in graal speed variable - this is part of the classic engine which is built into the client.

Who are you to say if Graal has a good security system? Honestly, I doubt you major in any degree which would give you the information to make such a opinion. Anyways, people are allowed to make opinions, even if they're not educated; Hell, just look at me!

Yeap, you're right. Unfair people will treat other people unfairly. Maybe they won't use trainers, but that's not really important.

Well, that's not really true - well Stefan could KEEP patching he could also use punishment as a deterent. You don't think stores, when they have a shop lifting problem, just goes "Crap, another shirt was stolen. Instead of detering the stealing we will just buy ANOTHER shirt to replace the old one."

Have you forgotten about Era? They use their own movement system, and SPECIAL trainers were made to bypass its systems. You say I dont know what I'm talking about, but its YOU that doesnt.

Well, that's true, but a trainer wouldn't need to convince the server to adopt its new value. It would only need to modify the variable locally.
