Interesting that he asks here. Maybe showing the other players that he's been working and there is a possible quest?

Correct.

Its taking longer because theres a problem/bug in GraalScript which is affecting the way the cutscene handler works, and so I need to work around this. This needs to be sorted first. Also I have been ill over recent weeks and have just had 9 courseworks dumped on me so I have slightly altered priorities right now.

Maybe? I already answered him though saying we can add it if/when we can fit it in with the natural progression of quests. I believe I know where that will be but dont want to say as I dont want to reveal too much .

Avalon? I think the players rather the quests sooner then later.

Gerami, they are faithful, but they're tired of all the crap on classic.

There would be a big problem with putting my quest up because it requires Birdshot, but I don't think it would be difficult to fit into a storyline with the dungeon style it has. I'd rather let it have working scripts sooner, though, so that when later comes it will be easier to mess around with.

Also, I want Sardon's Tower back .

Maybe Im the only one who thinks this way, but....

With everything that is in planning or has changed in the past, classic is moving further and further away from being "classic". The way i see it the server has the name Classic because it was the original server and contains what graal once was. However it has changed so much over the years and will be changed in the future with all of these new quests/items and such...that it wont be "classic" anymore (except for the core levels). Maybe "Graal The Adventure" was a better name for the server as it better described it.

Most people seem to think that change is neccessary in order for the server to survive. I think that going back to what we once had (before all the new hera stuff) with the hearts in zols toilet, midas realm, sordons, etc... would be best for the server.

The things that need to be changed are the way it is run(i dont mean who is running it, how it is run) and what it revolves around. Classic used to be centered around guilds, so why not go with this and make this happen again. Im sure people can think of better ways of doing this, but ideas that pop into my mind are things such as guild centered events, an overall guild sparring rating, an overall guild kill/ death ratio count, ease in having wars by adding a counter in SNs guild war room counting how many times someone in a given guild has died(that way there can be an actual winner, instead of everyone saying they won. I dont think ive ever heard someone say theyve lost a guild war). I dont know if all that is possible, but you get the idea....

From the things ive heard masterstorm talk about, i think he wants to make guilds the central part of classic....but it doesnt have to be done by making all new quests. Ive been around a long time, and ive rarely heard someone say they enjoy questing...it was so much easier to spend 2-3 hours getting all the items and be ready to pk/spar/join a guild.

So why not spend all your time improving things like i mentioned before instead of wasting it on quests that will only be a hassle. I mean, so what? we have all these new quests but theres still nothing to do when you are finished with it. Even if the quests are well done, which im sure they will be, there would still be that problem of having nothing to do after questing.

Of course in order for that to be possible, we would need to return to the old movement/ hit detection system(people are stubborn and dont like to learn new styles of fighting)...which i dont even know is possible without having to re-do everything.

Anyways, thats just my 2 cents...thought i would share

Classic was based around guilds, and because of the decline in playercount, and the rise in global guilds, we lost touch with this. What I suggest would be a guild fort for guild wars (as there is no other suitable location for guild wars), which would follow the same rule of kill rating as Hoss suggested.

As for individual players, I think they should bring back the playerkills and playerdeaths webpage which indicated who had top stats on Classic.

I disagree when Hoss says quests aren't important. I believe having good quests gets the player hooked, and then they will stay and wait with excitement for the next quest.

Thats my quick reply to Hoss' post.

yeah, i think i agree with you... Its important to have good quests because thats what gets a player hooked....but classic wouldnt need to hook anyone. We would be trying to bring back the people who left, which would then raise our player count and thus attract newer players(Just like UN does).

And like you said, guild wars dont have to be the standard kill kill kill. We could think of new ways of warring like the fort thing.

I think the only way for Classic to ever get back into the loop of things is for it to be free to trials... but limited in a way, like they cannot be staff, have anything uploaded, get some items, and other things.

I suggest a special 10 level guild war arena, where stealth is the key. There would be a radar, and you could possibly duck, to dodge the radar. Just like zone. It'd be like, Capture the base, whoever gets the 4 bases first winning. Like Zone.

This is only for the purposes of the guild war, swords and stuff still in use. Classic is evolving past "Classic" anyway.

Well we really need something done. As I write this post our playercount dropped to three people. A new quest sometime soon. We aren't attracting any new players, the old players are leaving. Storm, do something. Add something playerbased so people can use it.

he can't rely on GCs all the time. He needs something that players can run themselves.

I suggested Temp GCs, like Babylon's Temp ETs. He claimed too many security holes in doing that. The only way that's possible is if players get assigned items based on guild.

I would suggest opening the GC Studios back up so regular players could host. New events should be made that many players would enjoy playing even in their spare time. Cards (Black Jack, Poker) for one, as Kitten and I suggested on different occasions. Maybe even Chess or Checkers. Newbies always liked having and hosting events. I also suggest again, the guild forts idea, this will bring back guild wars.

Strip Poker would rule. It would check strings and remove articles of clothing, the tayloring system being disabled.

Considering that the only NPCW besides the Staff Tools and GC Prizes is PermaClothes, Classic is free for trials as it is right now. So Zippy, I guess you are wrong. I bet 50% of the playercount are trial users.

Night hosted me to tile and I could probably rescript the control system. The only hard part would probably be getting the clientside to match the serverside. Usually we do this with save[#] vars (which I don't know is the best way), but the problem with using save vars to match level vars is that save vars are individual to NPC, and you can only have up to 10 of them per NPC. I'll probably ask on the scripting forum today what the best way to transfer serverside level vars to the clientside is, I've been wondering for a while.

EDIT: I'm such an idiot, I would only need to use one save var that is checked in a clientside infinitely looped .05 timeout, and if true have it set and unset the control var. I think that would work anyway.

EDIT: Now I'm even more of an idiot, I can't transfer strings to the clientside.

EDIT: But I can transfer player ids. My only problem is that the save var for playerid keeps getting set to 0 somehow.

EDIT: That took longer than I thought it would take. The only real problem was that I should have been using player.id instead of player.account. I will probably do that more often from now on. I had a really idiotic misconception that level.strings existed that screwed up my script extensively. I was using level.strings to store the account name of the player and level.strings didn't exist. level.vars exist so I changed it so that it saved the playerid instead of the playeraccount. That will make converting all of the other levels a little bit harder, but oh well.

Yea, but you start with bow and bombs. The old warpring did use flags! So does the current one, except the current one is probably a bit more organized. Levels are in the warpring NPC and the flag saves which position in the array of levels you were at last.
