256x192x2 screens, right?
256x192, you can overcome that with Zoom: Zoom out to 2:1 using the usually restricted Baloons feature and suddenly the world looks like 512x384...which is about normal, 32 tiles wide by 24 tall, about 1/4 of a level on the screen at once. Easy enough to make a lowres state.png for half-size "A, S, D, #gralats, #bombs, #arrows, #hearts". Then you add a zoom-in for when you only want 16x12 tiles at full resolution: only looking at 1/16th of the world, but that's enough to chat.

Plus you can put the menu, inventory, Q-menu, keyboard, whatever on the Other Screen, so that's a help. A bunch of PWs would have to add some code for low-res 2-screen'ers, but it's a one-shot fix; you update your custom inventory once and you're done.

You have a laptop?
I'm a courier, I'm constantly in and out of wireless range. In the state of Washington they've wireless'd every rest area along I-90 (not free, but nonetheless). Barnes and Noble's cafes are LAN'd up for free. Airports are LANd (though again, usually only to subscribers). Internet Cafe's, Starbucks, Gamestops....Wireless is all over if you're on the road, though I agree that if you don't tend to leave the neighborhood there's little point.

Or:
- Free download (0$)
- Paid registration (19$)
- Desktop Computer (400$)

If you include the platform in the cost, then nobody's going to buy anything. Guitar Hero costs $280? WoW costs $450?
Though I agree, if you're gonna have to buy a GBA Card just for Graal there's a problem. Ideally, not to tell Graal marketing how to do their jobs, they'd find a bulk supplier of GBA Cards (100 for $4000, only $40 a card...it's a start!) and sell these preloaded cards by mail: each comes with a free year's GBA-Graal subscription for only $60! ($20 profit for Graal up front, vs $39 a year, the player's only really paying $21 extra for the portability).
But then, if there aren't 100 people who want GBAGraal, Cyberjouers is out $4000. So it's risky.

FFS ARE YOU BLIND CANT YOU READ?

THE POINT IS NOT TO HAVE PEOPLE GO OUT AND BUY ITS SO PEOPLE WHO ALREADY HAVE CAN PLAY! FFS
people can go out and buy if they want to but thats up to them. IF U READ what i put CAREFULLY you would realise that time and time again i have said
ITS FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ALREADY HAVE

ok one more time

ITS FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ALREADY HAVE THE FLASH CARD THAT DO OR DO NOT PLAT GRAAL ALREADY. I BELEIVE THAT IF IT CAME TO NDS (nintendo DS) GRAAL WILL GAIN MORE PLAYERS AND THERFORE MORE MONEY!

graal wont have to buy flash cards in bulk at all..., @Tyhm
the way they work is you connect the Micro SD card up to your computer and drag/drop files to the card, put the micro card into the Flash Card, put that into DS and then you can play what u put on the micro card. (.nds applications only oh and they play music and stuff to)

all graal will have to do for this is get someone or a small team to make a graal.nds file that works, put it up on graalonline.com for download then people who have a flash card can simply download it like the graal client, drop it into the flash card and away they go. so very little funding there required. so that $4000 is not needed :P

so there is very little risk at all! miniscule risk!

Yes i have a laptop, not until the summer but i do. And i dont see free wireless places that often these days. Also, sounds pretty lame as **** to go to burger king or starbucks just to play graal.

And i was just pointing out its not going to happen. I dont know why Daemus keeps trying to fantasize about it because if it wouldnt happen on the psp, it SURE as hell wont happen on the DS.

And Daemus, i really doubt more than 3 people if not, only you would have a supercard and thats not enough for Graal to be tooken all the time porting everything over when they could be working on graal3d, updates to 2d, etc. Take consideration into what became of the psp idea which was a much better idea considering the graphics card is much good enough.

Again your only looking at people who only play graal. There are loads of people all over the world who have Supercards, M3's etc. that play homebre stuff, im merely suggesting make graal available on DS for them as well and graal will gain more players and more money.

Oh, right, 2-3 months if you work straight. If it's a set decision by graalonline we might have it by 2010!

It's a horrible idea, if you are going to go on your DS to play graal... you require internet.. you have internet at your house. Use it there.

Not necessarily 2-3 months; if Stefan's really got Graal boiled down to Kernel And Emulator by now, it'd only take him about a week to make another species of emulator. (As in, it's PCGraal->Graal Kernel/MacGraal->Graal Kernel/DSGraal->Graal Kernel, and all these Emulators do is say "They pushed the Up key. Draw graphics.g? Okay" while the kernel does all the complicated - but platform independant - work.)

But that's an If, and such things are doubtless the highest possible secret.

This "kernel" method (although it's not really a very good word to describe it) is sort of how Graal works already I think, however the problem is that it isn't platform independant. It would still have to draw things to the display/framebuffer in a way that works for the current platform, etc.

I don't think you could use too much of the existing code, which is the problem.

While I agree that it's tricky to script, it's also an inevitable part of any platform's game. Thus it Should be fairly easy to either find a reference on it, or find someone to partner up on it. (Unless Nintendo's decided to make it as hard as possible to make games on the DS, in which case they can go to hell)
