Get rid of stupid NGR thing

Quote:

Let the ideas flow freely
And so I did. This entire new NGR system is stupid. The forum should simply go by your birthdate. If it's over 14, then you're allowed. Then again, since when were 13 year olds exposed to things that will scar them for life on these forums?

The administration is just trying to flex it's powers. 2005 was not a bad year for the forums, a bunch of **** didn't happen. None of you "admins" got the hint when things were starting to go wrong earlier this year / late december and still dont. The suggestion itself is the paragraph above this one. This one is my ever so productive rant.

"Let the ideas flow freely" <- Am I the only one who sees the irony in that?

Why is it stupid? It was made so that we would have a forum with more relaxed rules, and to keep it away from the main forum, which is for Graal.

It's not more relaxed, it's what NGR was before that stupid link rule. I say stupid because it's such a useless addition. In 2005 we had no problems with links, why all the sudden block them off?

It was the retarded links rule that gave birth to the retardified NGR to begin with, which then led to a private NGR. So in the end we're not more relaxed, we just get a private version of what was already available last year and earlier this year.

This forum may be for Graal but that doesn't mean that it should only be for Graal. It hasn't been only for Graal for many years and there have been no problems.

So? For some reason Unixmad wanted things changed. He didnt want links on the main forum. I suggest you just get over it and move on.
The new NGR is more than just links to outside websites you know...
It is a place to be allowed to have more mature discussions that Unixmad does not want plastered all over the main forum, which anyone can view whether they have an upgraded account or not.
People who are removed from there who cannot handle mature conversations, or people who simply do not want to view it, cannot even see it without being added.

Personally, I think it was a very good idea.

Hey, I'm a customer and not happy. I can complain all I want. Unixmad does not see the Hello/Goodbye forum. If he did, he'd be like "omies y do ppl quit so much" but doesn't because he doesn't care.

The old NGR was too.

How about we get the old NGR back, then block it from people who are too young? Boom boom.

You are not taking anything he is saying into consideration.

The fact of the matter is THERE WAS NO REASON TO CHANGE THE NGR FORUMS BECAUSE NOTHING HAPPENED LAST YEAR.

I could understand making the link rule after some incident happened (ex: phising of some sort), but that simply did not happen.

Also I don't know if anyone notices this, but look at the birthdays today on the graal communication center main page, look how many are over the age of 13 everyday. For god sakes today 7 people have birthdays and are way older than 13. The rule is just bogus and is not needed.

Then maybe scrap "The Lounge", honor Chrono's proposal and make the NGRT visible to only registered users.

Hm.

After reading a number of threads about it.

I see what people are talking about.

I know unixmad created a new set of rules for the GraalOnline Communication Center, though, I think it went a little too strict.

After viewing a number of pages of threads within the Non GraalOnline Related Forums, no rules were broken, I guess. Besides the topics of other games and sexual related material, such as homosexual topics, there was nothing major which caused the forums to be out of control.

I mean, I understand the logic behind this, but the external link rule is the thing which makes "The Lounge" a different forum. There was no other previous problems before? I guess what people are speaking about is, if there is a forum thread which is closed, there should be some sort of rule cited which explains the reason, instead of a private message because it doesn't allow others to view what should not be talked about.

I agree, the rule's completely retarded. We demanded more freedom and we got less but were promised we'd get more later on. First off, we're not getting anymore and since "this will be added in a week" means "see you after two years" with Graal management, it's not gonna be here soon.

Unless we're gonna get flying monsters on GK.

Bats don't count.

That's really bad PR and management. If you want things changed, usually there is a reason for it. If it works without problems, then why put more restrictions on the system? There was nothing to gain from this because a problem was not existing. And simply telling the playerbase, aka the paying customers, to just "get over it" is probably the worst thing you can do.

Tell them not to read it then? Same concept as not reading a thread that doesn't appeal to you. If you don't like the topic, don't open the thread.

Maybe so many people don't get "it" because "it" is illogical and illogical is bad.
Forums should never be run in such a way that the entire forum base questions the existence of the rules, deems them unnecessary, and then can not have them adequately explained.

You know with all the complaining about this rule, you'd think some kind of compensation would come out of it, but it doesn't look like any high admin/owner is even trying to do anything.

Even a list of allowed sites (such as sites like cnn or wikipedia) that would be in the rules. I mean, look at the current forum... it's called Non-Graal-Related and it's a bit common sense on what goes on there. But most conversations relate to something else on the web, since that's how we all communicate. Now we are restricted to threads like "let's play simon says" and no really interesting threads (like Googi's old news posts). Soon enough you'll have threads like "red light green light" and basically ruining the only interesting section of graals forums.

Also, I believe you have to be 13 or older to even post on these forums if I am right. Why not change the register date to being 14? If you look at the birthdays for today it shows no one younger than 19 was born today... Graal players really arent that YOUNG.

Something should be changed...

I am not going to touch thist post with a 10 foot pole

Both sides have very valid points. Unixmad wants to run the forums the best way he thinks it should be fun. And since it is his game he has every right to. Moonie wants to do her job, which is to do what Unixmad says. I agree with the opposition too though. There are major flaws in these rules. Lack of logic and PR. Unfortunately Unixmad isn't very experienced with being an active member in his games' community at all so I would imagine it would be tough for him to make rules for it. This has always been a problem and always will. The most stable times on Graal were when we had very active GM's IE: Galen or Contego. These times we had huge ammounts of players and big boosts in customer satisfaction. I think Unixmad is doing a pretty damn good job lately considering how much work there needs to be done, but he has to realize a few things.
1) He doesnt have to do it on his own. While Ibonic is doing a great job I am sure with GM.. I know from him being my friend that he can be timid at times. What is needed is a batallion of global contacts that are active in the Graal community (in-game and in-forum) And the most important thing is to pick people that arent disliked by a large ammount of people just because they are close to you, ie Malinko. And its also important not to pick someone who is very slanted like Clash. Who do we have as a global contact now that is EASY to contact? Moonie, yes but shes on the forums only and (no offense) seems more like a Manager than a co-worker. (NOT THAT ITS BAD) Think of it like a job. If you had a problem with the way the company you were working with was run you wouldn't go contact your General Manager.. you might contact a shift manager or an asst. manager.. someone that is more on your level and can SEE whats goign on from your perspective more than someone way high up.

2) Unixmad and Stefan are working in Retail/Customer Service. While I know that major MMORPG's won't appease every little player that whines or yells about something. But when a large portion of your players want something YOU need to give it to them. That is your job. I am totally aware of the troubles with opening your own buisness and maintaining it. I opened a restaurant in my area and had to sell it because it was too much work (also because when I got the loan my credit score was too low and I paid way too much interest) And you have to worry about #1 (you) but you have to realize that in the long run worrying about #2(us) will greatly benefit #1. While it's only 1 or 2 people at a time.. people are leaving the game.. Complaining that they wont upgrade because its not worth it to just use the Forums. I am not sure if the Graal Administration realizes that this means THEY ARENT PLAYING YOUR GAME. People would rather make one post a day, edit their posts to comment if they need to respond before then.. than pay the fee to pay the game. This is NOT good for buisness. You need to keep us happy so we will continue to want to play your game. You see things like UN with 190 players. How many of those are classic accounts or trials? Theres nothing about UN that you need to save anything for unless you want to get all their 200 rediculous fun npcs saved to your account. And who gets the crap end of this deal? Me, and the other people who want to make GOOD worlds for graal. We are the ones that have to tell our non-upgraded staff that they have to pay 50 dollars to work for us. We are the ones that have to pay $150 a year to make a game for you. I love it, and I will continue to work on Mana Realms but I am BEGGING you to at least try to put yourself in our shoes. It's tough and we have this stress ontop of real world problems too. It's just not right or fair and we need to comprimise on things or this game will run itself into the ground.. which will make me upset because I love this game and its been a huge part of my life for over 5 years now.

I hope this doesnt make anyone angry because it wasn't meant to. This is supposed to help both sides understand whats going on. Because both sides need to realize that there IS a problem.

PS: I guess I did end up touching this thread
