My idea for a server.

So my idea for a server was to create a real RPG server, where not only the players are roleplaying, but the staff is too, you can see the staff as somesort of government, you can pay them with ingame money to have yourself a house built, you can order materials from the staff to built your own house. You actually play together with the staff instead of having them as real staff, ofcourse they will also have the functions of other staff, but i think this is much more interactive and challenging for both staff and players. Act of the community will have an effect on the world, which has to be kept actively updated by staff which will also prove a challenge for the staff, so maybe you can see the staff as somesort of gamemasters, running the game, and playing the "bank". Ofcourse the idea needs some work, but i plan on developing it more, and maybe start working on a server offline, when i've gotten better at scripting, latting, and ganieing, etc
What do you think of this idea? Do you think it's doomed to fail, or do you like this idea? I'd like C&C but no flames please, and also please don't say, "it sucks" or " i hate i", it's ok if you do, and sure say it but please also give reasons.

The idea sounds new and fresh, I've never heared something like that before, BUT don't you thinkg the server will be too addicted from staffs? All I understood, the server only works with some staffs online.
Can that work well? I'd say no, but maybe...
You might go for a kind of shop system, which may be bit more expensive.

at first glance the idea sounded really cool. But then i started to think more in depth about it and i feel the idea would in the end fail. Having staff imo part of the economy is never a good thing. Staff with that much power will abuse. If you want house builders, have it like GK's system. If you want players to be GP's, have non staff police officers who's job is to guide players and to walk players to quests and such. In order to have staff do everything that your planning, i'd have to imagine the staff list being very large

Yeah that's what i figured too, the whole idea is dependent on trustworthy and active staff.
And yeah maybe having players work too is a great idea! Thanks for your input guys!

I like this idea a lot!

Maybe you'd want to create two staff teams tho. One for development, banning/jailing people and another staff team for the stuff you listed.

Good luck!

Don't like it at all..

I'm not much of a fan of solely-RP Servers, nor do I see how the actual gameplay of this could be fun.

From your post I assume it would go something like this:

1. Logon
2. Possible Character Creation?
3. PM Staff, I want to order house supplies.
4. PM Staff, Now build my house.
5. Wait for Staff to do everything for you.

No, i know that's how it sounded from the first post, but the player has to do several things to get the house, earn the money, get the permits, get contracts will all construction companys, water, gas, bricks, that stuff, he can do this by quests etc, iunno not sure on this point yet, it's not a that far developed idea, he has to contact several staff, either he wants to use his own design, or he wants to use some architects design,(which he has to pay the architect for, which (not sure yet), can either be a staff or a player.

Maybe not this complicated, but it'd be quit alot of work to get for example a house built.

And yeah i agree the staff part is probably going to be the biggest issue, so i probably would have to replace quite a lot of that with NPCs, but the placing of the actual house would have to be done by the staff, and it is also about the fact the players can basically construct their own overworld, and then the development staff might throw in some events such as poisoning of the sea, or a lake, and then so many players have to do a quest to clean the lake and then it is restored to it's old glory, i just want to make it very interactive, with alot of updates, and small events/special happenings, players can even vote for the staff/gamemaster they want as mayor, governor/whatever of the town/country. Elections would be held like once a month or once every 2 months, and the staff would have to show their ideas for the server/overworld to the players, and then the players will vote for what they like best,

of course the ideas of the people being elected will have to go through a commity of development staff or something to make sure they're not too strange, and actually realizable

Yeah, in theory it sounds like that could work, but this is a game and should help those escape from the real world while they play, not put them right back in it.

i've had similar thoughts in this respect, but in my version of this type of idea, it wasn't that all staff was subject to the RP. i thought of having only certain types of staff being apart of the RP, such as FAQs or GPs. for example, GPs could have to track down players who PK (thinking of it as murdering someone), would have to catch them in some fashion, and then actually drag them to jail. FAQs could be paid for their services, and act sort of like fortune tellers or merchants of information

however it just becomes silly. RP is much more enjoyable if everyone could catch one another and drag them to personal jails, or if everyone could be a fortune teller. RP works best when staff is invisible, not when they are apart of the world itself

One of the main components of having a competitive community is that players have the ability to work or increase their skills to be 'on top' and above other players. In your idea, the concept of being 'on top' equates to becoming staff and I don't like that. In my opinion having a clear distinction between the staff and the players in any game is a necessity and I've always believed that having staff as both major players, and expecting them to be impartial moderators or developers, is just unrealistic and unprofessional. In addition to this, I don't think the community we currently have would be interested unless there was the incentive of power, and empowering the entire community to shape the world is just a can of worms in itself.

Too unrealistic.

me and jorollychu were actually bouncing an idea around not long ago involving the staff being revolted against by the players in a camp called "Jachau" and the staff was equipped with Karbiners and the players had like table legs and their dentures and stuff

On Crystia we had the positions "Architect"(LAT)/"Artist"(GAT)/"Engineer"(NAT) and so on planned with titles and so on (for Staffs though, and normal ones for players)

Totally off topic now i think o.o
