Movement opinion

Hi, I'd like to hear what you guys think about the type of movement for the server I am working on.

http://forums.graalonline.com/forums...ad.php?t=83922

We're pretty set on attempting WASD/mouse aiming, but still have some doubts. Please let me know what you'd prefer and why.

I prefer allowing players to decide their own keys for movement via the Graal options. You don't want your server to be inconsistent and unnecessarily uncomfortable to get used to through your own personal preferences.

I agree...however, depending on what we go with, gameplay will change dramatically. If we use the mouse for aiming, then projectiles can travel in any given direction rather than just straight (like era).

It wouldn't work to allow players to choose between the two, because they would be at a disadvantage when using standard movement.

I'm voting classic movement system until I could see a good working WASD system.

I had one on my server ;_;

On another note, maybe I should just let you guys use a backup of my old server since I'm not doing anything with it, and you all seem to have around the same idea I had anyways. XD

Lord of the Swine? Honestly that system had some pretty bad wall detection.

Four directional shooting systems fail.

You get stuff like Era.

I vote WASD movement because for one, its unique. And secondly it opens up a wide array of new possibilities in gameplay. Especially with the sales given gameplay idea (which is similar to CS/Battlefield/CoD)

Why not just have options? What happens if someone uses their mouse left-handed?

That's possible, but you'd still using the mouse to aim/shoot. I'm saying options for switching between mouse shooting and key shooting would not be practical.

Meh, if people want to gimp themselves by using only keyboard why not?

Way back when on Gman's Atrius, he created WASD movement with mouse shooting. It worked fairly well except for the fact that on inside levels, you'd often end up walking backwards when you go near the edges since the mouse runs out of room to be in front of the player.
