It was amazing to start with
It was fairly average on the second time around
now its just quite sad.
You cant draw blood from a turnip, or quit beating a dead horse.
I dunno which saying fits here.

revival is about dedication and resources. dedication is something you have to have and keep hold of, and resources come to those who dedicate time and work on building firm connections.
i reckon pretty much anyone can revive 2k1. you just need someone who is committed to having a strong team that communicate to each other, share out a fair workload, have plenty of strengths that assist in each other's weaknesses and has a vision and set of goals that are reachable - i.e: that don't need constant backup or support from Stefan, etc.
the greatest of all graal downfalls is the abuse of power. everyone's been a victim of it, in one way or another. the only way to prevent it is to make power disinteresting to the team.
the key thing is to never 'release' a playerworld to the public unless you have either:
a: prepared with a team of people to constantly think of new, interesting and fun events to entertain players until there are more things to do themselves
b: finished a large portion of things for players to do. what's been the biggest problem in like, EVERY graal playerworld? unfinished things. oh yes, you can be a fisherman, or a miner, or a blacksmither, or a flippin' poopsmith. but heaven forbid the NPCs, the skills, and the quests to give you these abilities are ever actually completed before the server hits 100 players in the list, then bombs in a kamikazee mixture of flailing staff egos, abuse, neglect and social life interruptions.
i could guarantee that 2k1 could even be a fun server to play on within this week if i had a team of 5 other dedicated like-minded people to help. maybe even less than 5. but i don't, and i don't have the time, dedication or reason to do it. :]
so, let's wait patiently for the same old same old. new tiles, new fishing, new this, new that. what i look forward to is the direction these new things are led in.
