Tribute to "Gani Artists"

This is just a tribute to all the gani artists out there.

People just don't apprichiate what we do for graal and servers.
Some people don't even know what it is.

So Good job and lets keep the ganis alive.

Most probably why this section isn't as active as the other sections. It'd be great if all the Ganimators got together and held a Gani Competition or something.
Just to show that we're here.

I can possibly do one for a cash prize in the near future. I just don't know how many will participate though...

No offense, but gani art isn't horribly complicated. Its using basic logic followed by simply placing variable images (sprites)

Mostly the graphic artist or nat that needs a gani simply whips one up themself. So glorious days of gani admins are pretty much over. With a good tutorial and 20 to 30 minutes to learn you prety much covered the basics.

And how does one judge a good gani? In the end its always a combination of the graphics and how well they are animated.

I don't think this whole thing is about animating weapons and that. I think it's more like "What's the best you can do with the default sprites?"

Leveling isn't complicated either. Some taught me the fundementals to a decent level, and after about 3 or 4 days I had some what of a jist to it. A lot longer than you predicted for creating Gani's, but Graal isn't complicated it's self :P

Actually you gotta be pretty creative and have decent physics + co-ordination to make awesome stuff. Scripting knowledge wouldn't hurt when it comes to adding lights and alike too. There are also a lot of animating "tricks" or so to say ones more experienced with animating in general (like myself) would know to give certain effects :P I mean...if I asked you to make a kun-fu gani with the classic body sprites for something as simple as punching and I made one to compare, I promise it'll be a lot better looking and in a more timely manner with less effort. I know most scripters just script using wordpad and often come out with dull *crap*. Furthermore, making ganis for an entire server can be time-consuming and tedious. Sure new ones after won't take much (if any effort) at all...but specialisation can have it's advantages.

I mean it does take alot of time and self cordination to make ganis.

Believe it or not you need to know your frame work.

I've taught myself how to do it.

And i never read any tutorials, so that was hard.

I mean being able to make ganis is pretty much talent to me.

No, making ganis isn't that hard. But its making them look good thats the hard part.

Also, I respect all the gani makers out there. Good, bad, experienced or not. You guys have my respect, and probably the respect of people who have ganiied or have tried to gani.

Knocking together a few sprites is not a talent.

Being able to animate with as little resources as possible is talent.

Fogles and Chris have talent.

I think Gani's are underrated.

Time and patience. Its easy to get frustrated making ganis. Editing the times and placing the sprites right. Creating each frame even if you copy and paste you still need to edit every frame.

Aye, you're right. It also takes good creativity and imagination.

I figured out graalshop from a couple posts on the forums here within a couple hours, and whatever I can't do in graalshop, I can open up the gani in a text editor in toss in or edit whatever else I need.
It's like playing chess : easy to learn but hard to master.
