Pirate Application? Needs work?

Today, a member joining Crescent Pirates must have made a mistake of mass messaging his application to the server rather than PMing it to Alan.
Then someone sent it back and here's how it was.
(Note: This is not a PM, it was a mass message for everyone to see. So this is not breaking any rule against posting PM history.)

Pirate Application:

Have you ever been accused of scamming?
No.
What will be your first and last name on tag? (always where when on tag)
Raven Spitfyre or Redfyre(same as old).
Do you agree to donate 5 iron, 5 coal and 20 boards to CP before
receiving your Pirate rank? (this proves you are sincere and a hard worker)

well I might need a pickaxe to do that... in any case... YES...

change that to NEWB app...
hard working i 5 minerals... lol what a joke.
This is not picking on the person who joined. He was said to have been a pirate before under Alan's ruling, and was simply rejoining.

My point is the application itself. Is this all there is to it? Do we all really think this is sufficient?
First, it BARELY touches the surface of RPing. It simply asks about first and last name (which isn't really totally enforced in the kingdom anyways- and names are even flexible with pirates).

The donation requirement does promote a sense of RPing. Maybe it could be improved as well- something less tedious and more value (donate a diamond).

I propose there be questions to show knowledge of RPing. The meanings of "Out of character" and "In character" would be good for a start (knowing their accronyms would be helpful as well, but it seems the more important problem is to get a grasp of their concepts first).

Afterall, we don't want people getting the wrong idea and running around in our kingdom with names such as "Jim Raynor" saying things such as "Arrg! Ye dirty n00bies aint got nothing over me!!! LOLZ!!!" (supposed to read that with a gradual change from stereotypical pirate voice to normal-obnoxious modern day person).

Also, I believe this would help the cause of RPing in CP which is what kingdoms are about, right? Having good ole' fashioned roleplaying fun.

Thank you.

Finally someone is going to admit that I have an idea how RP should go.
-Etien is back, and he comes from the forest.

I read the post carefully. Nowhere in there did I see "I think Etien Debagglio should be elected supreme Czarina of Roleplaying, because Etien always knows best about the 1337 gangsta RP."

Etien is not back for long. It's been a long time since anyone played as a demon.

Yeah. Thanks for clearing that up.

Yeah, I like the idea of involving the recruitment process more in game. Like actually doing an in-game roleplaying questioning. I used to do that as well with various applicants asking whatever would be appropriate, but some of the stuff I did conduct in PM's. I can't say mine was intense as yours, but the idea of roleplaying sure was there as well.

You ridiculed it, yes. I didn't see you also massing out well thought out suggestions for reform.

Perhaps if you delved in, that is the STARTING rank. You have to prove yourself and have a certain overall experience l evel amount taken from different areas to progress any further.

The PIrate rank is just the newb of the seas, they have to obey the orders of EVERYONE>

I don't believe that's an application.

That's more like a fee to join. The application part related to that is a question asking if you're WILLING to "donate" those things.

But since you're commenting on the donation requirement- I think diamonds would be reasonable also. After all, even if you're a total newbie- if you've been mining enough to have 5 iron, 5 coal, as well as minerals for yourself- you must have at least one diamond somewhere. The requirement still has space to be more strict so that we can say if you're not able to make it, you're not a very good gamer at all- at least not in Graal.

Anyhow, my point was more about incorporating more RPing into the application process.

Diamonds are a rediculous idea. What use have they? You can prep one person's weapon with them, or you can make one of the less-than-useful items scattered throughout GK. Nice way to make everyone's work benefit one person.

Ahoy, there, matey! Did ya forget we're pirates?! What better way to show appreciation to your new hosts than bringing some booty aboard!

As for it being to benefit one person- yes and no. Only one person can have one diamond in the end. Obviously, the Governor will be the one taking the diamond, but if you havn't noticed- diamonds make a VERY easy, convenient, and decent prize for an event. And who is the one who has to take care of supplying the prizes for events? More often than not- the kingdom leaders unless it's an actual "event item" which is received from staff. I hope you see it what I'm saying here.

Governor Alan is giving out a lot of his own items. He make them by alchemy, buy rings in the shop or trade some of them from others. Only these kind of items he cannot buy/create he received from staff.

Yes that's nice but how is a RP requirement to get things that don't relate to a Pirate and give them upon joining?

I mean hell, he could just be using that to make houses with. It's weird. *shrugs*

The application e-mail you saw is the last part of an allication process, which spans several e-mails. The others cover the rules and expected behavior. But I agree, it wouldn't hurt to beef up the whole process with more specific RP expectations.

Thanks for clearing the first question of "Is there more to it or is this it?". But now that just leads to another question "Where is this application?". I think people who are unfamiliar with it would like to see it- especially after we just tore apart the only part of it we know. I know I would. Is it lurking around on these forums or the CP web site? If so, I've missed it :[

Otherwise, there's no point in continuing the thread if we have no idea what's being asked of people.

that wouldnt be cool since diamonds really doesnt benefit a kingdom, but with the boards, iron and coal we pirates can use them for things we do for our events.

coal - alan uses to purchase cannonballs to hand out during ship events (usually takes 50 cannons to take out a ship you will need plenty)

board - for making ships for our shipyard for event times

iron - buy cannons for CP defenses

The boards and coal are used for ship building and cannon balls for the CP fleet, as well as by the Architects for emergency house repairs (this is where the iron comes in as well, for nails). This is a good way to have new members contribute to the welfare of the kingdom. It also helps change their focus from "What's in it for me and what can I get out of this kingdom?" to "how can I help my kingdom?". I have found it's also a litmus test for high ranks and leadership potential, for those who say "Sure, np I can do that and more if my kingdom needs it" vs. the ones who complain and try to get out of it like a bothersome chore.

Governor Alan Steele - CP

Alan supplies a lot of things for events mainly because he wants to, and doesn't need much in return except for the things that keep the kingdom in shape. For the most part, he wants nothing from us except for the desire to help out with stuff that needs helping with. Not diamonds or likewise. Having a kingdom that is able to easily manage itself is worth some of the items given out, if you ask me. If I were in his shoes, I'd probably do the same.

It's only part of the application process. I do agree that rp should be more stressed in the application.
