MIDI Pack Idea

Hi. I am interested in making MIDI Packs, the problem is I haven't been able to get in touch with Mr. Knorr or unixmad... I do understand that they are very busy, so I decided to see what people actually think of the idea before it may be acted on...

The question is... Do you think it is a good idea to make new musical content for playerworlds... MIDI Packs... that they could use on their playerworlds? Probably distributed along with the "levels" pack... In my personal opinion, I think some new tunes would bring some soul back to the playerworlds, making a more enjoyable adventuring experience! But I am not going to vote, because it is up to you.

Of course, the desicion to use midis or not would be a desicion made by the playerworld management, as always!

Well, Graal already comes with the standard Midis that it's always come with. I would think that custom musical content, just like any other custom playerworld content, would be the responsibility of the playerworld staff.

Ummm well I dunno. As long as the music is free for all to use, there's no hurt in just doing it and possibly making some people glad.. Think of it as an expansion pack. But with music.

Free hardly means it is good And then I think that it's more important for playerworlds to have unique things than to just have the standard. Anymore new playerworlds need different tilesets than just the original, because it is boring and played-out almost. Times change, so it makes sense for each playerworld to have unique content.

That may be so, but how many playerworlds actually have unique content? How many use ideas that have been done before?

There is a really small ammount of playerworlds that actually are even able to make unique content..

But in my own opinion, it's not the tilesets or the flashy scripts that make servers good... Remember Bravo, way back before the time of p2p? Now THAT was good! And people always helped you out and everyone did quests together...

Actually many servers have things that are unique in some manner or another. At least if they use the same music files, they don't differ in that aspect in the slightest bit, it's still the exact same files.
Also the tilsets and "flashy scripts" (although this is an ironic way to phrase scripting) make up part of the server, but they are not the server itself. It's the combination of levels and scripts that make up the gameplay, and then the graphics is putting a nice pretty bow on top and makes it look "flashy" as you put it. Being slightly biased perhaps, I think that scripts are one of the more important things because it directly effects gameplay, limitations, hacking abilities, and more importantly the lag factor. Also it tends to be the hardest form of development. Graphics and levels are more of "art" or in the eye of the beholder you could say. I have yet to see tiling or a graphic that has a bug and then therefore crashes the server or causes everyone to simultaneously lag and ruin the entire game :P

Who knows, maybe the experience they have while adventuring and listening to the music will make them glad like the experiences they had while playing final fantasy games.

Which is really not supposed to be allowed for the same reason that copyrighted images weren't supposed to be uploaded to the servers.

Ahhh... I haven't really had MIDIs enabled myself on playerworlds, so I didn't know they were using FF and CT midis. Sorry to incorrectly answer your statement.... but yeah... I probably would have said somewhat of the same thing anyway. If people had epic music that was exciting and cool... maybe, well maybe, they'd just switch from illegal midis over to graal midis. :-)

i always listen to mp3s while playing graal, but if it actually had decent midi's and replaced the awful slashing sounds etc i'd much rather listen to the actual graal ones.

Ew. I turn those horrible little turrets of low quality sound off. I can't stand MIDIs, they throw my into a killing frenzy.

HoudiniMan will become famous soon enough
Can't host music on servers now anyway, so i think it would be a great idea to make a list of URLs to music on a webserver that you'd let anybody use.
