Tribulation

Alright, so I've made minor references to it in a few posts. Now it's time to give out some information on it.

First off no screen shots will be released. Although this isn't necessarily easy for us after all who doesnt want to show off what they've been working hard on? But we feel it will be better to have it all as a surprise for people when they have no idea what it will look like.

Tribulation is a playerworld designed to be unique and unlike anything else previously seen on graal. We have turn based combat similar to Final Fantasy 3. Each battle can have up to 3 group members. Many battles can not be won with out friends to assist you. Monsters will jump you at random and you will switch to battle mode. Some encounters you will see and engage the mobs to continue. On release player vs player (pvp) will be limited to 1 vs 1. With up to 3 player pvp combat added in a future expansion of tribulation.

There will be a variety of classes to choose from all designed to support one another in combat. Including but not limited to.. Warrior, Wizard, Cleric, and Rogue.

Job's will be optional but not necessary for advancment in the game. But in choosing to do jobs you will have the oppurtunity to make and wear or sell some of the best gear in the game or to make various items that will be very useful over time. (Although doing so will not be easy)

The overworld is similar to the Final Fantasy games and many other great games in that you will be on an overworld where you will be miniturized and have to enter dungeons and towns to get to the normal perspective. (cant think of a better description for it ask if you dont know what I mean)

I think this is enough information about the server for now.

We are currently staffed with some of the best people in graal and although we don't actually need staff, but you feel that you're highly skilled and would like to apply feel free to pm me or e-mail me at [email protected] and we can discuss it. The only thing that might truly be saught after is some one skilled in making gani's. We have the ability to now but if we can get some one truly skilled it would help increase the quality of the server over all.

Any questions feel free to ask.

If you don't like this type of server that's ok we're not making it for you and there are lots of other promising servers there is no need to tell us.

Also if by any chance any information gets leaked before release any one found sharing such information will be banned from the server permanently.

Nice idea. I would like to suggest that the encounters be like Earthbound. I don't like walking and all the sudden a random enemy encounter happens. Earthbound's system is better because you have to actually touch a monster before the battle begins. I also like being able to sneak up behind a monster and get the first attack, etc. This would be a cool server.

At the moment that is planned for some encounters but not the majority. How ever I'll discuss it with the team and see what they think. But at best it will always have a combination of the two depending on where you are. Dungeon overworld etc..

But so far we had premptive attacks, or back attacks etc.. randomized.

Sounds good. It's a break from the regular hack and slash system. Turn-based battling on Graal could be awsome if it is done properly.

I agree. Walking along and running into enemies without warning can get extremely annoying. I'd much rather be able to see the enemy and have to touch them first or whatever. Just seems kinda unbelievable that you walk along what appears to be a clear path, and then a group of enemies hops out of nowhere and puts you into a fight that you usually can't even escape from.

But I think I prefer hack and slash over that system, since the battling requires actual game skill and not just thinking of which move to use, but actually aiming and hitting the enemy with the move.

There's nothing wrong with this system being used though... I would surely play it. (that is, if it's done well) Although I kinda get turned away by the awkward name. Tribulation? I pray to God that's not the name of the world, but just the name you've given the server. Anyway, good luck.

Sounds like it would be a nice new thing on Graal, and I can see it being popular, but I would say it is lacking in originality. From what I can see, you are just making Final Fantasy with Graal Graphics(or your own tileset, if you are making one), with the addition of Multiplayer, which I can't really see working as Graal is supposed to be a Multiplayer game, and having a more Role Playing aspect would limit the communication and interaction between players. =/

Aside from that, it sounds good. Good luck to you!

Ok let's look at this rationally. I shared a small percentage of things being done. I gave final fantasy as an example because that is one of the most commonly known games in which have features similar. I did not release even a fraction of the information nor the storyline. Infact it is vastly different in comparison.
It would be calling a bicycle the same thing as a car because they both move on wheels. So please before you go insulting something about originality think before you speak. As this is only a minor heads up in which I've shared only a couple things that will be on the server.
Now after more releases of information or release of the server itself you still feel it is lacking in originality I would be glad to take some opinions on how to make it more original. But right now I can safely say it is far more original than any server currently released.

We're making a TBS system to bring something new to graal. Hopfully it will appeal to enough of the playerbase that we will hav a stable playerbase.
Although this system won't require fast reflexes. (to a point) It will require strategy and it will help with the class system as you wont have wizards getting hacked to bits as they try to RP and casting spells (assuming they want to RP) Right now we're leaning towards more of the RP/Friendly gamer than the PK squads that are common on most servers.
As for the server name. We're still debating that we just cant come up with one we all like and that was better than the previously suggested names. But right now I would call it more of the project name than the final server name. Just comming up with a good name that relates to the server isn't necessarily easy. Any suggestions on that you can pm or e-mail if you want we'd appreciate it.
I'll talk to the team about jumped by mobs vs. Jumping mobs.

It sounds great. But my greatest concern is if you'll give out a wide selection of spells, equipment, and character classes, because the same ol' classes get boring after a while.

We havnt delved to much into all the classes. Just yet because we've been working on the actual coding for the battle/exp system along with various other projects but I would like to have more than just the 4 basic classes.

As for gear and spells. I plan to have a wide variety of this although not all classes will be able to use all of it. Such as you wont see wizards running around in full plate armor etc.. Or a warrior casting (insert spell here) on mobs. If you have an idea you feel would be a great glass feel free to let me know with a brief description.

Nice idea, hope it doesnt get too complicated, as I just want to be able to have fun, and if I gotta consider which spell to use, and calculate resistances and level up for ages to do pointless things I would get bored. But im sure it wont be like that.

About the only thing you'll really have to worry about is wether or not amonster is immune to the attack. But mostly common since will take care of that. Example using a fire spell on a fire demon would be inneffective. While using something like a cold or water based attack might do a nice set of damage while other spells might be some what less damage than a spell that the monster is weak to. I dont think plan on making it overwhelming. But at the same time you'll have to use common sense to really get the full enjoyment out of the game. Also the weakness and immunity thing won't really effect the game play of normal monsters. Thats more of what you might class as boss monsters. But here I am rambling and telling to much about the server. Ok no more giving out information about it or you guys wont have anything to look forward to.

Sounds good. I will definately be making a cleric (it will get healing spells and the like, right?).

About the battle system, you should probably make some areas with monsters that you could see/dodge, and others that just appear.

Chances are, if all the areas have monsters actually walking around then it would be difficult to level.(People 'camping' spawn points, etc.)

See:

Chrono Trigger(SNES)
Chrono Cross(PS1)
Xenogears(PS1)
Xenosaga(PS2)
Tales of Phantasia(SNES~)

I'm pretty sure most of those greatly improve upon the style in Earthbound.
