I hope that hasn't been suggested before, and I read everything posted here - or so I think.
Anyway, is there a "peaceful" version of the fort gate planned? something that works with stone- and wooden fences.
And isn't it possible to open/close the fort gate instead of picking it up, walking through the gap, and putting it back? I tried to doubble-click it but it didn't help...

Yes, you can double click it, double click the gate, and you need a key for it so that it works, not 100% sure though. There are stone and wood fences to build around your house, only members of your kingdom can destroy them.

Gotta click the bottom of the gate.

What irks me is they're such a hassle to lock, and tend to get destroyed whenever I leave for a few minutes...then I gotta waste supplies building a new one, lug it all the way to Harmonia, pay to get it locked, lug it all the way back, place it...cheaper to just block the way with wood fortifications, if they're just gonna get demolished anyway...

Will try clicking the bottom next time I'm there anyway. Anyway, why were they created so you can pick them up again, and not permanently place them like the other fortifications - is it a matter of scripting?
And while we're at it, is it just me or can you only place stuff close to your house? (Which I wouldn't complain about, I'm just curious whether it's that or just my mistake)

You can place it anywhere.
