I have heard lots of complaints about Tycho and Fenix's rank system slaughtering everything up. Well, good news [maybe]. I've trimmed it up. Tycho wants to say that it was entirely his rank system, the only thing Fenix did was type it up. He takes responsibility for the carnage.
It's come along way since my first, oversimplified list. Personally I somewhat like a larger list now that I'm exposed to one. You can sort of see how the kingdom is supposed to grow if anyone would actually join it. There's more room to customize what you want to be.
Once again, some of the names are a little bland but I am working on them. I will also point out individual ranks for which I'm looking for unique names. But before you suggest a new name please make sure it actually kind of fits in with the rest and is apparent what it actually is. It might be best to make a bunch of suggestions at once so there's at least a common theme to them. Here is the current list.
Ruling
Emperor - Obvious
.....|----Empress - Either female consort or... not
.................|----Chancellor - It's Tig, yo.
Ministries [looking for new names that aren't too abstract
Ministry of Armed Forces
Ministry of Citizenship
Ministry of Government
Explanation of the Ministries
Each ministry follows a standard layout. You have the guy in charge and multiple sub branches. The classic sub-branch has the person in charge of the sub branch, a high rank, a low rank, and a rank for trials. At the end of the branches there may be novelty ranks.
Armed Forces
Warlord:
|----Army <looking for new name>
...........|----Grand Knight
........................|----High Knight
...................................|----Knight
...............................................|----Shield Carrier
|----High Magics <looking for new name>
...........|----Grand Mage <suggestions welcome>
........................|-----High Mage <suggestions welcome>
...................................|----Mage <suggestions welcome>
...............................................|----Trinket Caster
...........|----High Priest <suggestions welcome>
........................|-----Priest <suggestions welcome>
...................................|----Initiate <suggestions welcome>
...............................................|----Altar Boy
|----Navy <looking for new name>
...........|----Commander <suggestions welcome>
........................|-----Captain <suggestions welcome>
...................................|----Sailor <suggestions welcome>
...............................................|----Cannonball Carrier
|----Champion
|----Palace Guard
This ministry is mostly self-explanatory and the roles are clear. The two novelty ranks are Champion and Palace Guard. The Champion is for whoever in the kingdom kicks the most *** at the moment and doesn't want another rank. Palace Guards are more for skilled fighters and is more of an RP novelty.
Citizenry <looking for new name>
Mystic
|----Grand Alchemist
|----Grandmaster Tradesman
...........|----Master Tradesman
........................|----Tradesman
...................................|----Citizen
...............................................|----Unemployed
|----Mayor
...........|----Party Planner
This is basically people who play for reasons other then to fight. Also explains why this ministry is smaller. This ministry does haven't sub branches, just the main tradesman branch and a few novelty ranks. Grand Alchemist is a tribute to one of my favorite skills, alchemy. Also serves as a sort of "retired emperor". Mayors take charge of individual towns and work with me in developing them. Party Planner is our own, unofficial EM.
Government <looking for new name>
This ministry doesn't follow as detailed a layout. Most branches only have a pair of ranks, the person who fulfills the job and his or her underlings.
Magistrate
|----Foreign Affairs <suggestions welcome>
...........|----Ambassador
........................|----Escort
|----Histories
...........|----Historian
........................|----Scribe
|----Inquisition
...........|----High Inquisitor
........................|----Inquisitor
...................................|----Lost Soul
|----Intelligence <looking for new name>
...........|----Department Director <looking for new name>
........................|----Agent <looking for new name>
The Inquisition was formerly "Counter-Intelligence". My magistrate informs me that Intelligence and Counter Intelligence deal with spies, and catching bad guy spies. I've expanded counter intelligence's job description to including hunting out internal threats as well, thus I think "Inquisition" is apt.
Also, Lost Souls are a mix of the inactive and excommunicated/traitor members. Don't panic if you're found in Lost Souls and don't think you've done anything wrong. You were either falsely accused or just hadn't been seen in ages. Or maybe you're an idiot, who knows?
On a final note, rank requirements. Fun to play around with but ultimately discouraging and unrealistic. So my rank requirements are simple. Trials have their own ranks to sit in. Get gold, move up. It's a lose sort of thing. The more you know about the game, the higher you go. Fighting is straight foward, you have to have a mix of gear and levels to perform better so that's difficult to advance in. For civillian trades, better you know it and can reliably do it, the higher you go. Government positions are entirely role based and appointed. |
