Well although I have to agree with Fai that you can overdo the roleplaying part, roleplaying is basically if you take in all the factors of all different types of games and stuff option 2. So I vote for number 2!

Roleplaying can be fun, but only when it's necessary. In Graal, everyone basically follows the same path. If all the players acted like their character, everyone would pretty much act the same. In games when you choose a class and/or race, everyone's path varies greatly. Then, the players should roleplay, as in immerse themselves in their virtual character. Otherwise, they won't get as much out of the game. So my verdict:

Graal: No roleplay (You can if you want, but you'll just look stupid. Come on, everyone! Let's create different stories about how we found our shield.)

Any online RPG: Definitely roleplay! (There are so many things you can do with roleplaying, and it can be fun.)

Try roleplaying in any other online game ever.
Ultima Online has a good roleplaying community, but is so bug filled I'd never play it in a billion years.

Everquest is just filled with k3wl d00dz.

Asheron's Call has a signifigantly greater roleplay factor, but it's only availible in the U.S.A. (And I don't live in the U.S.A)

So, basically, Graal is the only online multiplayer game where I have found any roleplaying. Period

I think it would be great if someone generated another world for RolePlaying on Graal, kind of like a alternate reality on another server. This way the people who don't want to RolePlay could stay on g2k1 and the people who do can play on the other world. It could be done easily, just pick a few talented fellows to bring the world to life and fill it with magic. ToT may think it will be RPing but from what I have read about the plot it sounds very stupid, agents from the future going into the past and stuff.

ToT doesn't look like it'll be good for RPers or anything, the plot IS stupid. I'll be going there to check out fancy NPCs, GFX and Ganis.

ToT could still be role-play, albeit slightly futuristic role-play, roleplaying is not limited to medieval atmospheres, although I have to agree that ToT's current plot sounds a bit stupid.
