Disabling Lighting Effects

Okay, Dusty posting something similar to this, that means it's a problem...

Lighting effects give me client lag that is completely unavoidable. I cannot play like this, it is so choppy, and in levels without lights, it's smooth as anything. If it doesn't disable lights, why even have it in the options? Pretty colors aren't worth moving 1 tile every 3 seconds.

Woo, I'm not alone!
Ya... I don't see why it should be dependent on the scripter.
Hell... I didn't even know it had changed until it was mentioned. I just don't see the point in making it an option, then only have it so scripters have to disable it themselves. It may as well just be coded to disable lights.

It doesn't actually disable lights anymore? Woohoo!

As for you two:
I suggest a better graphics card or more RAM for your computer (if you can afford it)

I suggest newegg.com as computer parts are fairly cheap there

OH MY GOD ITS AN URL ITS AN URL! RUN! RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!!!!

But hey, I guess it doesnt matter that you cant turn all of the lights off. v4 really pushed the performance. Runs twice as fast as v2.3 at my sisters computer (266 mhz, 128 mb RAM, 4 mb graphics).

I don't say anything about links in Tech support, as long as they are helpful.

As for the subject, Personally, I don't notice much lag with light effects enabled.

The problem is most likely that scripters doesnt add this in their light scripts:

PHP Code:
if (lighteffectsenabled

Yes, but I think the real problem is that they have to for every single light effect.
I just don't see why it has to be done in a script now, and not disabled by the exe itself.

It's not that simple.
The Era cars use rotation -> hide them because they are techincally a lighteffect?
The kingdoms spells -> just hide them and you get killed by invisible spell effects?
GUI graphics -> hide them because they use stretched graphics?
Bitmap Fonts -> they use "lighteffects" for drawing

It is not hard to hide all those effects, but you wouldn't see a lot anymore.

Replace the spells with images (when light effects are turned off). Stretched or rotated images shouldnt count as "light effects"..

Edit: Or turn around the whole thing. Something like a variable if they shouldnt be hidden.

Perhaps it should be more specific then.
I think lighteffects should pertain specifically to color effects, because that's what can really slow down some people's computers... actual lighteffects.

I think you should be able to force light effects, but if the lighting isn't being forced, then you shouldn't have to add lighteffectsenabled in your script in order to have it disabled. Some levels just cant be displayed properly without forced lighting.

I'm not going to go and buy more RAM or a better card for Graal when there is no reason the future shouldn't be true to what it represents. It worked before, why should it stop now? I'm sure Stefan is capable of doing it...

Are you saying Graal is the only MMORPG your computer will ever see in its entire life?

You call Graal an MMORPG? Whatever, Thallen, you should really get some hardware upgrades. Graal is even below standards, so that shouldnt be a problem, really.
