I prefer your idea.

If you base ideas off a game, it lacks uniqueness. Use your own mind and creativity - it's the way to get a good, talented LAT.

So if a musician just learns some notes and chords and has never heard a song in his life, that means he can write good music? Becasue that's the line of reasoning that you are presenting.
Nothing is original, everything is based off of something.
How does one become great? By studying the examples of past greatness, learning them, embedding them into their charachter, and starting the motor of creativity within themselves on a solid foundation of proven success.

I said they should use their own creativity - I did not, however, say their levels would be good. I simply said it was a trait of a talented LAT.

You cannot create music without Inspiration. You need something to base yourself on to create a style, Then that style evolves into you're own unique creation. I am a guitarist myself, without the propper inspiration, Things cannot be created.. Same thing goes for an artist.. Leonardo da Vinci did not just create the Mona Lisa, It was inspired from a person.

*high fives the guitarist* I have played guitar for nine years myself. The true artists know what im talking about. My college class in 2 dimensional design is what i quoted basically - nothing is original, everything is inspired, so to create great things, look at other's greatness. But do not directly copy them, for that is plagirism. Let the design concept inspire your own creativity.
Again, u can aim me or forum pm me for the link - or google search for zelda overworld map - it was something like that, for how i found it.

Hm, can't argue with you there. True you need inspiration, but what I'm saying is that if you link people to Zelda: Link To The Past levels then people might just copy them.
