I know it's not really possible, due to there being so many other things that need to be done, and the issues of trust and power and rights and such, and a lack of people capable of doing it, but how about:
One person who is in charge of planning and developing* really long events that go on for long periods of time. He'd have to write out how they begin, and why they occur, and what happens to GK when they occur, and what the players involvement will be. Once things have developed a little, he would have to take what the players have done about it and create what happens next.
*by develope i don't mean he has to make the levels, gfx, npc etc for it; he should work together with GK's staff to do this.
Right now you probably don't understand what the hell i mean, but i'll explain. An example of one of these events would be kind of like what Satrek is doing now, with his digging up of the Mage Tower, except far more condensed (satrek does it on and off, treating it like separate events that are all part of one storyline).
So, let's make up an example of our own: The Archipelagos is suffering a plague of meteor showers - meteors start raining down randomly all over graal (not too frequent, or it will be laggy), killing random people [regardless of level, stats, etc] if they are close by. They also destroy a few buildings, and damage the kingdoms towns too, and perhaps damage one of the kingdom's castles.
Such a prolonged hail of meteors cannot be natural, so the graalian people have to brave the fiery storms to find out the truth.
Ok, so, that's the starting scenario. The graalian people would then have to join together and build a giant telescope, inside an observatory (lenses supplied by Shuki Oppenheimer, of Kingdom Lenses co.). So, to do this, i dunno, either an insane amount of materials such as wood, stones, water, etc etc would have to be gathered, or random parts of the telescope (lenses, knobs, parts of the stand, the tubes, etc) would randomly spawn (or staff would lay them down and they would automatically appear after a certain time/activation, like with easter eggs) about the kingdom island over a period of a few days and the people who find them would have to go and add that piece to the construction frame!
Then, a magical barrier would have to be put up to protect the telescope from the meteors, so they'd have to go find mages powerful enough to do it, and find magical potions and scrolls with ancient inscriptions on them(these potions and scrolls would randomly appear.
Then once they've built the telescope, they look up and see all the meteors and see all the magic waving about them, and recognise the magic as the work of Evil McNasty, the nastiest mage in a thousand years.
And so, they'd have to go on a hunt for Evil McNasty, etc etc etc.
Also, what happens in these events has a permanent affect on the kingdoms. So for example, if Zormite castle got hit, zormite would have to repair it, and ask for help from dustari or employ the samurai to help or something (this could lead to more cool RPing). It'd be like the bomy moon on 2k1 - didn't there used to be some island with a chair there before the bomy moon hit? That's what i've heard.
This suggestion kind of ties in with that natural disasters thread that someone made - but rather than have frequent ones, just have a natural disaster as one of these major events every now and then. And of course the events don't just have to be disasters, they could be, i dunno, an invasion of sea creatures, or an uprisal of monsters leading to a bigass war, players vs monsters, etc.
The reason i started the thread about a PERSON doing this, is because, well, it takes a dedicated person who's one job is to think up events like this to...think up events like this.
I dunno, i just think it's so tedious walking around graal every day doing the same old things, visiting the same old places, where nothing ever changes. I looked at a screenshot an hour ago of when graal was covered in snow for christmas, and i thought "Wow...that looks elite, it was a lot of fun when everything was in snow. What about if a huge blizzard hit GK and that happened again?". But yeah like i've said, there are too many other things that need doing, such as the server being fixed and completed and tweaked and perfected, etc etc etc. |
