Dante, roleplaying rules?

When you say "no RPing other peoples' characters" do you mean not at all, or just not in a potentially harmful way? Practical example:

Joe and Jim are both RPing and the story comes to a point where they have a conversation. Is Joe permitted to provide Jim's character's speech, provided he does it accurately? Otherwise simple encounters would take hours, or days even. I've been a member of a roleplaying board for about a year now, and our only real rules are:

1) No godmodding or silly unrealism.
2) No making other players look stupid.
3) No spoiling other players' plans.

Aside from that, anyone is allowed to send the storyline any way they want, and roleplay anyone else's characters. It seems to work and we've had some really good plots moving before. Mutual respect keeps everybody happy.

Allow me to identify.

1) I'm pretty sure you've played some of those games that had "invincibility" cheats. Basically, you can't be "invincible" while roleplaying. For example, you can say "Bob swung his sword and Jim with great swiftness!", but you cannot say "Bob swung his sword at Jim and cut his head off, and Jim died!".
2)I can't really do an example for this, but you can't say "Bob was walking and Jim tripped himself and everyone laughed at him!" because that's making Jim look stupid. You're free to make yourself look stupid, though.
3)By this, don't do something that may spoil the big surprise they have coming up.

Pretty much. Or, if somebody has been plotting for a while and, for example, it is clear they want their character to have an encounter with Sue, don't throw Sue off a cliff just as he reaches her.

Also, if someone says "hey, can we backtrack because I was planning something for a while and your post makes it impossible" then we usually say "okiedokie". Evil plots are very highly regarded in our RPing world.

Well, to be fair you were doing a little bit of godmodding yourself. The goodies should always win, or at least come out of conflicts unscathed. They should only be injured or whatever if they want to be.

Coming out unscathed would be considered invincibility. True, the bad guy never wins, but what battle have you not seen where the good guys get at least 42 bruises?

If we did then would you have just dodged it or whatever? Besides, we can't go killing the other players.

Alright, fair enough, but there has to be a midpoint. By "unscathed" I meant "uncrippled". Like, any injuries should be ones that make practically zero difference.

Perhaps what we need is a system of HP/MP and a way to determine how much damage is done. That way, people would be able to keep track of health, and there probably wouldn't be as much (if any) invincibility. Also, I think that the villains also need to win some.

why is it that each Ster Warz movie had a different General/leader of the Rebellion? I thought that was a little fishy... and the Emperor looked Different in ESB than from ROTJ
