Creativity in Levels?

I know that there are many people here that are capable of making nice levels, some greater than others, but there is one thing I think peoples levels are lacking, and that is creativity!

So someone posts a level, the level is nice, detailed, and colorful.
It has some water, cliffs, sand, grass, trees, desert, etc.
Lots of people enjoy it, and begin to make similar levels as they are appealing, and eventually almost everyone is using the same style...
Eventually it gets old. Whenever I look at levels on the forums, they are the same old things! I haven't seen anything new or original in a long time!

This is what you should probably expect to see when someone posts a level:

Beginner Level = straight paths, sand path, predefined house, predefined bushes, rocks, straight cliffs(predefined), non-linked trees, and tile errors...

OK Level = windy paths(no sandpath, other style), interesting houses, interesting detail, jagged cliffs, a nice beach or cliff going into water, linked trees, few hardly noticable tile errors...

Advanced Level = good looking paths(perfect blend between the different styles), awesome houses, great detail, windy cliffs that go everywhere and look good, nice cliff of beach going into highly-detailed water, perfect waterfall with no errors, linked trees of all colors, barely any tile errors...


OK, well this is all good and fine, I still have yet to see something that has style and creativity!

I want to see creations. On a rare occasion I have seen things mashed together(bottom of a rooshe, top of a bush), and odd looking statues and stone creations, but they usually look horrible and don't work well...

Tile I think could be interesting: Bush/Rooshe/Sprout, Jules, Cliffs, Tree Roots, Small Trees, Large Bush, Large Stone, Treehouse, Statues.

Maybe you guys can post some creations or something? -_-

Most of the advanced people dont post their own work that often. We just dont feel the need to. I never make levels for showing off my skills etc.. If I do something its always for a purpose. A Server etc.. Often times I expirement with Tiles but I rarely finish these expirimentations once I establish what I was trying to create. Example one thing that I happen to have a screen shot here at work. A dried up river during a drought. Some one told me it couldn't be done so I went and made one a while back. But never did any real work with the level itself just the river.

Even with this river there are hundreds of things I could do differently or changed but after I established it could be done I no longer felt the need to work on it. So really there is alot of creativity just most advanced level makers I know don't show it off except to good friends.

Also,there are very talented people who make just one level. You people who ahve levels that people like could make a small town,or even a world to help a current playerworld,or to build your own. I think with a server about 35-50% of the completion is levels. Levels are a key thing to make. So donate some time when your bored this summer to a playerworld or create your own for others to enjoy.

When you make levels for 3 years, like me, it becomes a burden because all of the people want you to make levels for their server, then you end up getting lazy and just stop making levels all together.

That's why I rarely work for server's any more, every time I do some genious gets the idea. Let's make this server one of the top 3 servers. We're going to give it a face lift and make it cool. What they really means is. Hey all you LAT's its time to get crapped on you get to make a whole new overworld. Now yes I'm aware this is our third overworld this month but it's your job so deal with it. So any more I quit applying for servers. I dont care if people see my work any more I'd rather not have the headaches of redoing overworlds for crap servers and managment any more.

It's true, LATs always get the worst treatment on any server. Then the servers whine when they don't have any.

LAT: OK, whatever, but the PWA's are gunna get mad because the levels don't meet the standards

*1 week later*

Manager: The PWA's want us to improve the levels! Please come and work for us again!
LAT: Umm, k?
Manager: Good, remake the overworld now, k?
LAT: >=-(

*1 month later*

LAT: OK! Our overworld is 95% complete! We are almost done!
Manager: No, no... delete all these levels! We are going modern! Make a modern overworld now! Make it look like Era, but if anyone asks, we had the idea first! =/

*1 day later*

LAT: OK, I made about 15 levels for the overworld!
Manager: Good, I will give you 5 hours to finish the other 50 levels!
LAT: WHAT!? You expect me to complete the overworld in 5 hours, with no help!? I can't even stay on for 5 more hours!
Manager: Too bad, and don't forget the inside levels! Each outside needs to have at least 3 insides! Get to work! If you don't do it in time, I will do a complete staff wipe!

LAT: OKOK, I stayed up all night and skipped school to make your levels... Are you happy now?

Creativity comes from new use of tiles, but all teh tiles wree used in cool ways already, so only creative thing is making of a new tileset, but that's GFX.

LATs are treated the way there are because there are many of them =( Sad but true.

It's possible to make new and creative things its just very hard to come up with something that some one hasnt done before you. :X

Yes there are alot of us but the majority have crap for skills. It's just any one can open a level editor and blam think they're instantly a grade A level maker. When in reality real level makers are about as common as real GAT's or NAT's. If we where so common then the majority of the server's wouldnt have crap levels that make me log off 5 minutes later when I cant take it anymore. :o

Umm, Twist, that part is kinda funny seeing as how you were the one who hired me in the first place, after going onto 2002 and asking me if I wanted to tryout... (In the project we were doing before Modern)

Oh well, I just got fired and permenantly blacklisted on Bravo for making that little joke about Bravo, but I don't really care... I lost intrest in Bravo after it became modern...

And about me begging to come back... I didn't beg, or flood MD with IMs, I asked to tryout, sent the staff some levels, and was rehired... I tryed out back then because Bravo was starting to look better and more interesting...

Bravo is going down the drain, so at least I no longer work there; I won't be dragged down with them. I'ma go find a good server to play/help.



BTW: This was supposed to be a post about Level Creativity, not me/Bravo... =/

Hey, this kid speaks the truth. I worked on Bravo off and on for about a year. The overworld must have changed about 5 times since I was there, and most of the LAT just became innactive or told Brandon and Sky they wren't working no more. :o

As soon as this Playerworld Hosting is in place, alot of the crap servers will be gone (incluiding Bravo).

As for Lloyd, whenever I saw you on RC or Graal on Bravo, all you were doing is begging for NC and working on this one scripting level. I never saw you do anything else, and I level I did see from you, wasn't even good enough for a lat cadet job =x... try actually working on levels next time, maybe some practice or something... my 9 year old brother does better =x=x=x.

That's partly what started this. Most of the best level makers have walked. There are only a few left who hang out and even they are beginning to discontinue helping servers make levels because its not worth the headache and ridiculous demands anymore. Most of the good level makers are just showing stuff to friends because they can make what they want, when they want and not be ordered to make 78 levels in two days then get yelled at because you couldn't make all the levels look 100% kick ass in 2 days. (this being during the week and not even the weekend of all things.) Which also happens to be a common practice with servers making ridiculous demands. Which the discussion was actually about not people whining about level making but the lack of talent and why. So before you open your mouth and insert ass. Please think before you post and only further lower peoples opinions of you. Before you made this ignorant post I didnt think anything bad about you but after this post I'm beginning to see why you get so much flack from people.

Lol, it's not that the demands are rediculous, but it's just that they all suck, and the only real one really getting on my case is protangonist and that because i said his level sucked ass instead of covering it with all the **** that you guyz do.
