It doesn't work that way. The Graal server would not need to run the attachments, so there would be no danger of viral infection.

Thats an interesting idea, but lets finish graal 3d and guildcp and kingdoms first, we need to concentrate everyone to those before we send some off to do other things

1) Generally speaking, all virii in emails have to be attachments. Some exploit security vulnerabilities in the email-reading software, but they are specific to that application. The only way to include a virus that stands a chance of infecting any computer is to include it as an attachment.

2) Regardless of how the virus is attached, the Graal server doesn't need to interpret the data and thus is at no risk of infection.

I'd rather there be a mail system by which you can buy a box, fill it with stones, stamp it with your address (ie which of your houses it should go to), pay 10p, and leave it in the post office. Then a newbie gets paid 10p to bring it to your home and leave it either in your mailbox or, more likely, at your door. Then you get there after some dungeoncrawling, only you can lift or open the package, you repair your house...just think how much carrying capacity would be improved if you didn't have to run home (taking a half hour to ferry and drag yourself there and back) every time you got too heavy?

Pros: People would actually use the mail system... not exactly for Graal... but they would use it...
Cons: Doesn't seem very sensible to spend the time to implement... putting something like this in the game would mean adding stuff to the client program... I think at least... I might just be making myself look very stupid right now...

Just my quick 3 minute analysis =)

It's a nice idea in general, but still - I think it'd be nice to have a system where you can write a leter to accountname@kingdom, and it gets delivered to the account's house (if any) during the next hours (by a script based on a random amount of time). Packets would take longer, and carry different amounts of weight (say, 50kg in an hour, 500kg in 6 hours, 500kg in a day or so, +/- 10%). They should be safe for only the ac**** to pick up and open.

Using POP3-Mail for the letterbox, well... you won't be able to manage them - except graal leaves them on the server so you have to deal witrh them somewhere else again, which is pointless. Also, pwould use it to spam anyway. Use the graal box for graal mail only.

I'd rather it be a newbie job. I woulda loved to make 10p a package when I was light and foolish.

I think you idea wins. It would be a good newbie job. But I hope it isnt abused somehow. Like on Era when Mail was first released you could run to the gun shop and deliever mail and get like 100 dollars every 4 minutes. But unless it was just random npc mailboxs like on era it would be better for it to be real mail so it could run out and you would be un imployed.

i know my typing was horrible...im on a crappy keybpord and there is no backspace/delete button =/

As long as it's secure in some way - say, if a newbie has the letter/box/whatever and doesn't deliver it withing the hour (or 2, whatever fits), it's warped back to the post office. And of course, only the postal newbie and the owner can pick them up, if they are dropped at a place which isn't the owner's doorstep it's warped back as well - and only the owner can open them. That'd be fine.

Yup, that was the plan on the other thread. You have an hour to deliver it, then it resets. After three resets or three hours idle, whichever comes first, it magically delivers itself. The box the newbie carries is a dummy NPC, so they can't find a way to open it or destroy it, and even if they do they have an empty box.
