The anvil ate my iron

Just as the title says.
The anvil (not the crystal anvil) continuously eats up my iron.
I take my cooled (purple) iron to it, grab the anvil to open the menu, and then I select what I want to make. When I try to make it though, it does nothing.
Either I'm doing something wrong, or the anvil has a grudge against me.

Ohkay. Thanks. I thought I was doing something wrong.

They should change the information about it though, because it says "Grab the anvil to see what items you can make" and since the grab button is A, well, you get the picture.

When you press A, you get the iron bar back. It doesn't eat it, unless it has grown teeth and has a hunger for metal.
