Graal is taking 100% CPU

Okay, I have been encountering this bug a lot lately, but wasn't quite sure why it was happening, or what it even was. I wasn't sure if it was my graphics card, my CPU, Graal, my computer...

Anyways, I narrowed it down and found out the problem.

Whenever Graal is currently the window in focus(AKA an active window), but another process of sorts is taking priority, Graal cranks up and starts taking 100% CPU. An easy way to replicate it:
Open Graal, open the Task Manager to watch your CPU. Keep Graal as the active window though. Then open the start menu. Graal's CPU shoots up to 100% CPU fast, and it slows down my computer horribly.

I'm not entirely sure if this applies to everyone though, or if it's just my computer/set-up. Either way, I decided to test it with the Graal editor. I opened it up and played in a level with lots of NPC's and such running and did the above, and it did not do the same thing. It ran perfectly fine. I also tested it with other intensive programs like Photoshop CS3 and such. No problems with them either.

It's not INSANELY problematic, as Graal runs fine, and most other programs run fine since they steal focus... but it's annoying nonetheless. Watching menus stutter into view because Graal is hogging CPU is ugly to watch.

Driver is up-to-date as far as I'm aware since I've recently downloaded and installed it. Graal version is v5.

edit: Also noticed if I have Graal running(and focused, as in playing it) with Photoshop CS3 in the background, Graal is taking 100% CPU... making it impossible to play. Just because Photoshop is running behind it.

This is when it becomes really annoying because it makes it hard to play Graal and work in Photoshop at the same time...

I used to get the same problem. I probably still would if I used the V5 client again. It's a memory leak in the Windows version of V5 from what I deduced while asking around. I don't seem to get any memory leak issues in V6 though.

This happens to me on another game, 'League of Legends'. I can't even run Ventrilo without LoL taking up 100% of my CPU.

It's too hardcore for you.

I guess so, don't get an Acer laptop! My old Sony Vaio allowed it to work smoothly.

LoL sucks theres your answer. Softcore HoN players but to be honest I don't see this problem anywhere near as bad as how Graal just plain dampens down on your computer like if you were running a graphic intensive game when it should equal out to like if you were running three to four MSPaint clients.

Did you try setting it so Graal only uses 1 CPU?

As mentioned in this thread: http://forums.graalonline.com/forums...ad.php?t=83697

It seems like if it was actually only running on one core, the slowdown should have nothing to do with your cpu, since it's still got a whole core left. or more.

A certain other game required me to use something called runfirst.exe to set it to one core before it even started up.

Could be the result of bad multithreading

Not sure if you've fixed this yet, Dusty, but try disabling the playerlist (use in-game) and see if the lag still exists. I've had issues with the playerlist and some Adobe programs.

When I started working on my game in C++, it would take 100% CPU until I added a 1 millisecond sleep to the main loop.

I think XP couldn't handle dustys developing skills, so microsoft created W7.
W7 was dustys idea
