Happy birthday to the greatest GC to ever grace Classic (you know, back when events weren't scripted, and event ideas were original and exciting).

I don't think shockedfrog hosted the same event twice, and they were all original. Better than CTF all day and night, which is what the current GC team does.

Got any examples? I'd be interested to hear some of these events.

shockedfrog is on a distinguished road
There's only so many categories of events, I'd have run out pretty quickly if I never hosted the same one twice, but I did try to keep things a bit more varied than most. I was fortunate enough to be GC before it ended up being taken too seriously, though. If things are still the way they've been for so long, the GC team just don't have the same kind of freedom I did, and there just isn't the same kind of community there, though obviously some great people are still around The staff are probably doing as good a job as can be expected, really.

Anyway, thanks for this, cheers me up a bit today It's amazing to think it's been nearly 9 years since I first played. Though it's uninstalled at this particular moment, I'm still keeping an eye on Graal from time to time just in case anything awesome happens and I finally have a reason to return for the pure love of the game rather than random ego moments.

That's partially what I thought; the community being more up for makeshift events and random ideas in the past, due to them being events, as opposed to now where they depend on consistency and repetitive things that are proven to work and are fun. I was a GC in 2007 and I realized just how little in variation there is provided in terms of levels and NPCs. Sure we could place a few droppables in some levels and give it a name, but it doesn't feel like a real event these days and that's what people go for.

There is a very little amount of people who go out of their way when hosting events these days, and I've gotta admit it has been absent for years. There just isn't the right mindset anymore, especially not that of back in the day from GC's such as yourself, Obby, etc. It'd be interesting to hear some original ideas of yours for events if they were never developed into "real" events as they could provide a nice change to the limited pool we have.
