Class limitations.

As of now, I am a barbarian level 110, yet I posess the magic of an archmage, the prayer abilities of a pope, and i can destroy monsters in 1 hit.

Lets limit the usage of items and add a script for which classes can use what items.

Also, lets add additional information when examining an item that will tell the player who can use that item.


-Examples-

That is Red Dragon Amulet -stats- -Classes: Sorcerer, Alchemist, Warrior, Fighter-

That is Darkflame Sword (dam+9) (attacks: physical, fire, fear) (can only be used by : Barbarian, Warrior)

That is Plate Mail of Power+12 (str+1) (ac+whatever) (can only be used by: Barbarian, Warrior)

That is large morning star (dam+12) (attackshysical) (can only be used by: Barbarian, Priest)

That is Robes of the Magi (speed+2) (int+3) (pow+3) (ac+1) (attuned: fire, cold, electricity) (can only be used by: sorcerer)

That is Sword of Boshism (dam+80) (attacks: weaponmagic) (can only be used by: Gods)

you get the idea.


This will mean that i cant go picking up rings of elrond as a barbarian, slapping them on, and running around spell flinging. Barbarians should not even be able to comprehend magic books.

Only if everyone gets a one-time chance to change their classes with knowledge of what the consequences of each selection will be.

Remove skill scrolls perhaps? This was one idea and would really only affect the newest players to GK, not a threat at all to oldbies......unless they start over. =)

I wouldn't want the skill scrolls to be gone. They are good for the economy. Newer players, or older players can sell/trade. Sometimes people pay good prices just because they don't shop much.

I just think they need to improve the skills. fix the bugs in it, like stealing. make use of the skills that we can't use very much.

Well I dont totally agree, I think, as a warrior I'd die in 3 seconds without magic - I can't kill lords with melee either, I havent got the AC....So i use magic. But maybe SOME limitations. And this could tie in with the different class armours thing, couldn't it, so only mages could wear the robes, only thieves the leather scout armour...etc.

Really though, the current way of doing things is far more rational. Class should only determine your starting position. If you train yourself in magic, you should be able to become a powerful mage regardless of your class. Same for physical. A "jock" can study every day and grow up to become a scholar, while a "nerd" can become an athlete if they train every day. Your starting position or "class" isn't really a big factor in what you can become.

Priest can't do much aswell only use large morning star which people dont use anyway.

Comparing real life to a game isn't a good thing to be doing, a few of the players really want more balance in terms of seperating the classes to some degree so they aren't all mixed into one superclass by the time you reach level 40, while others feel it's alrady balanced since you do have to work for this superclass in the first place.

You don't need permanent class restrictions for RPing, that's the whole point, you play as a role.

You can be a superclass on game, but with the help of class armours, look like a class to RP as.

My suggestion is that things are allowed to generally cross class the way are now, and leave only 'special' and unique abilities to classes. Right now, I don't think there is suitable content in the game to really make this possible. Also a change such as this would upset many people who would then wish (or have) to restart to choose a class they more enjoy.

I believe that while this is a good idea to look into and implement in moderation (key word here), it should be implemented in combination with several other large gameplay updates which would make a server restart necessary.
