Population Split up

It's been on my mind for a very long time, and im now interested to know how others feel.

I personally feel that the graals population has been split up into small groups, people on their own playerworlds, i think the private servers idea was in some ways a bad decision.

I liked the idea of creating playerworlds and submitting them, and if they were good enough, theyd go online, Then the hosted tab would become more use, for srrvers that are found to be really interesting to have a chance to gain interest, then make classic if its really good.

Just a discussion

Makes it very hard to effectively script, doing it offline and then submitting.

The current PW system is horrible and I've never been a fan of it since the beginning. It killed the whole "yeah im from xy server but im working on a cool server!" feeling.

You contribute to the population being split up.

Personally I am always on Classic while working (currently offline) on X-Online. And I am sure I will be less on Classic when I have a change to test stuff online..

So I agree, the current thing is somewhat killing the population of servers.

It's eventually splitting the developers to more servers, but the old way (almost 4 years ago) was not good either, people had to work on stuff offline for several months and then submit it and hope the global admins like it.
We just need to get the developers work more together.

Exactly! Making a PW took REAL skill, REAL dedication, and hell if you're good enough you -may- have had a hidden server. Why not emulate an npc server on the offline editor?

Back then, when someone said they were making a PW, everyone was like OMG OMG WAT IZ IT ABOUT. Nowadays you log into one of the what 50 PW's only to think 2-3 are decent. No PW has came out let alone held a playerbase since this thing first came up. =/

Stefan made it clear over a year or two ago that there was not going to be any support for an offline NPCServer or so. More importantly, without having an online server to work on you have the problem of disconnectedness. Unless there is some central "pool" of work, then you have 30859734 people working on things and no one really has any idea what is going on. The whole point of the dev worlds, while it may spread thin the real developers, is to give access to a central point of work and more importantly the NPC Server.

What I was trying to do right before I quit was work on a new server to be added to the gold list or so. Most of the people lined up and working were globals and kingdoms staff with a few exceptions, but Stefan and Unix both decided that they weren't willing to host a GServer that wasn't being paid for. The aim was to try and release a new server every 3-4 months, but I don't have $60 to shell out for a server, especially since I was not intending on keeping it but giving it to the other devs when it was finished. I have to wonder if the dev world system is literally an aim to get new playerworlds out, or if it is just way of bringing in revenue :/

I believe you guys should still allow purchasing of playerworlds, but if a project looks good enough, you should sponsor them with a server like you did originally.

The main problem with offline world building is the lack of NPCserver.

Actually, I made most of DR offline to begin with, however, most scripts needed to be fixed, due to the lack of an NPC server offline XD
