Some economic ideas

So I was thinking of a few ways to avoid the inflation problems that have often plagued Graal2001.

1) Total Gralat cap: There would be a fixed amount of money on the server (though it could be altered), and they could just flow around the server. After the cap is reached jobs would have to not function until some player bought something from an NPC and their gralats were deleted, creating room within the cap again. This would only require a single server.string. However, it seems like it would be unworkable due to problems of people quitting and the potential that a few people could amass a large fortune and make Gralats rare.

2) A "second currency": Graal2002 has diamonds, which increase in value with inflation and so people try to turn their plat into diamonds, allowing them to keep up with inflation. This could be difficult on Graal2001 though since it's hard to see how a single item could have such widespread use.

3) Inflation control: The payouts from jobs and prices of things bought from NPCs could be increased as inflation increases, though this would create faster inflation, I suppose it would be possible to just knock a zero off of everyone's gralat stocks and also off of all the payouts/prices every once in a while.

Sounds nice to me but people are bound to be jerks and abuse bugs.

I think a lottery would be nice. 50% of the money is destroyed and the winner gets the other half?

We've tried things like that, it doesn't work because very few people will play.

Yeah, I remember when I wrote out a very complex and detailed system that would have perfectly fixed the economy and everyone told me I was a fool.

Good luck, sarge.

The Gralat standard wasn't very different from idea #3.

P.S. You tried to abolish the economy.

That's why I mentioned it.

Because I thought that it would be best for the server. If you recall, I later changed my mind.

And came up with the Gralat standard.

I like the ideas and really think something needs to be implemented when it's released again. Otherwise it will most likely go down like all the other releases.

I miss 2k1 .

I don't want G2k1 to have a graalat cap and I don't like the idea of a second currency. I do like the inflation idea, it gives people a reason to play more and to invest their money in something. Someoen told me that the inflation in india is so bad that whenever they get payed they immediately buy something >.>

No. You have the problem right, but not the solution. I'd like to see a tax on every single gralat that is transfered. By transfered, I mean if one player drops it and another picks it up, a certain percent of the gralat is destroyed. Also a higher tax on the market stands, because we all know 2 gralats isn't really doing anything but stopping poor people from making money.

Money is coming in and not coming out. You need a tax to even it out.

this sounds pretty good to tax. why not just have a value added tax on everything buyable. and if its at a market then when an item is bought for say 10g the stall owner might only get 8g with the rest going back into the server

A flat value-added tax doesn't do anything to solve economic problems, it just makes everyone poorer.

Not necessarily. It'd be more of a percent. Thus the more gralats in exchange, the more gralats are lost.

This tax can be adjustable as well.
