We are adopting new standards for RPing in toguilds, which boils down to
'if it can be ic, then it is ic'
95% of toguilds are ooc, and 90% of those can be ic with just a little
imagination and effort.
Challenge yourself to stay In Character:
For instance, if you want help lvling up, you can ask, "Would any brave
warriors have the time help a soldier learning his sword forms in the
dungeons below? The sight of those beastly saurs beneath still strike
dread into my heart."
This is far more inviting to RP responses, than "((Can anyone help me
lvl? I really need too bad

))
The ic response invites.... "Well young soldier, I must just finish with this last spot of polish on
my armor, and I shall meet you for this endeavor. Seek me at the
stairs, on the Eastern end of the lands."
When to use Out Of Character:
You can still use ((ooc)) toguilds, *as long* as they are A) in
the minority, and B) can't readily be made into a ic comment. Asking about what level a
spell is or how much xp you need to handle 9 slots will always be ooc
questions.
Text chat oocs:
If you are in an RP event, you MUST use ((and)) for ooc talk, and it
must be only used when quite unavoidable to mention it.
Ooc in an event is like a cell phone in a theatre.
When telling a player that is new to graal how to bless, you can be on tag and
explain the game mechanics of hotkeys etc without going off tag. There
is no reason to miss important toguilds just because you are explaining
an ooc concept. (( and )) are not needed in private conversations on
tag, but staying ic is still always encouraged.
The whole point of ooc/ic is to promote RPing, so if you do RP most of
the time, no one is going to whine if you joke ooc while on tag once in
a while, those complaints only arise when RPing is basically dead
kingdom wide.
Corrections:
If someone uses ooc when they could easily say something ic, tell them
nicely, ooc. If people accuse you of being 'rp ****s' or play the 'well
you weren't RPing this morning smarty pants' game, tell them that their
attitude is not original or condusive, and they should rethink it.
Same goes for 'picking' on what is generally considered acceptable ooc use just to 'get back' at
someone for correcting you earlier.
Power trips:
No 'RP Power Trips' - RPing doesn't make you elite or inferior, it's
just something we do for fun. Power tripping is far more harmful to a
good RPing environment than any kind of ooc talk.
Ye Olde English:
Optional, but if you are doing something ic, don't use modern slang.
It's not a competition to sound like the hammiest overacted theatre
production in history. Use it in a fashion that is easy enough to
communicate, but adds a bit of flare, as you feel suits your message.
If it is ic, it can be as plain as any modern sentence, as long as it
doesn't use specifically modern slang.
