If you are online, Add IP Ranges and IPs now to accounts. We have already had one problem with one PlayerWorld, we don’t want anymore.

We understand you are probably excited and went straight to developing and uploading, but security needs to be top notch too.

1) Creating an IP range:

There are many ways to get your IP, such as IRC chat, AIM, tools and programs which display it etc... For dial-up users your IP endings will change, but the start may stay the same. Once you have found a way to get your IP address, you need to write down all the IPs you have. Ideally you should get about 15-20.

Lets say I have the following IPs (Which I do not}

64.124.42.44
64.124.88.52
64.74.963.25
64.123.67.32
78.642.96.34
78.642.46.34
78.642.45.32
64.124.85.32

[The first thing to do is put them in numerical order, so 64.*.*.* > 78.*.*.*]

Once you have put them in order, you need to look at what changes and what doesn't. In this case its the first and some of the second parts of the IP address. Which means this IP range for someone with those IPs would be:

64.124.*.*
64.74.*.*
64.123.*.*
78.642.*.*

And in order seperated via a comma: 64.124.*.*,64.74.*.*,64.123.*.*,78.642.*.*

Now many people will just do the following: 64.*.*.* (if the other numbers seem to change a lot) Ideally if you can have a tighter IP range such as: 64.124.*.* then it will be more secure. The reason I suggest multiple recordings of IPs is to get the full range of what your IP could be. Ideally you should take IPs over 2-3days so that it is a greater IP range. REMEMBER: You can always edit or change the IP range, but you can't always get back the Levels and NPCs deleted by an intruder.

But 2 will be okay, but not as good.

IRC won't give your IP address to other people unless you initate DCC connections to them. IRC sure seems unconfortable to get your own address.
http://whatismyip.com/ is a nice way for people behind routers and such to get their IP number. Other Windows users can also run winipcfg or ipconfig.

That actually depends on the server. With the rise of idiotic DDoS, servers have begun to mask their user's hosts.

To clarify, I believe Windows NT (NT4, 2K, XP) has ipconfig, and Windowx 9x (95, 98, ME) have winipcfg.

Good idea.

And to clarify - dialup users, your IP probably changes every time you log in. So you "get" 15-20 IPs with which to decipher your IP Range by checking it each time you log on.

I wouldn't bother trying to get your IP range from your ISP's help line. I specifically asked them before I moved, and when the installer showed up he was all "Yeah, IP range? Cable's static IP, right?" =_=

Yeah same problem here. Well it took forever to get through, and forever to get through. And the IPs were examples, but okay.

How are things sorted out if all your work has been deleted by some haking your account?That could be alot of chaos. Where did this already happen?

Global Ban, so do backups, but you should be punished too if you cant secure your playerworld.

And its up to them if they wish to post that one of their accnts were obtained.

And I dont know what the passwords are on these playerworld#-Admin accounts, but if its just a basic word, try and get it changed.

This won't show the correct IP if your computer is on a network. For examile, the computer I am on atm shows it's IP is 192.168.1.103 but my internet IP is really 12.255.198.36

I set up a network between this computer and the computer in my brother's room. I use the first to numbers that you use (192 and 168)

I'm pretty sure those are the first two numbers you _have_ to use when setting up a windows network. When you set up a network with *nix I think there is one more option.

Um, you can use whatever numbers you want, I think. I just picked random numbers from my head that were between 1 and 255

. They were probabbly already set when you set up the network, windows does that automatically

It used those as examples. It didn't say that you had to use them. I honestly picked them from my head. When setting up the IP for an ethernet card there are no values in the boxes. I can change those values right now if I wanted to and nothing would be harmed

I think you're wrong, but my knowledge over computer networks isn't enough to argue about it
