The "Dragon's Tear" is known amongst most adventurers as an extremely legendary relic. The small stone has been passed down, from generation to generation; from father to son. That was over 300 years ago, time has scattered this majestic item somewhere, through the forgotten lands of Omagia. It is rumoured, the artifact is the actual reminants of a wise and powerful dragon's very own tear. In this age, no dragon dared to weep for a human or any other mortals. However, Avildar was an exception. And this, this is how this legend's story begins...
Lady Feran was a noble of a small, but respected city. This city was known as Evaloch, it is now infested with all sorts of hideous beasts and creatures, mainly goblins though. Anywho, this young child would, naturally, become a royal lady of the Evaloch Council. In fact, Feran would make her debute as Queen of Evaloch as rememberable as one possibly could. The first matter at hand was the greatest ever for this woodland city's citizens and royalty. People from other villages began to stop trading with the shopkeepers, even local visitors of the beautiful city were steering clear of its grounds. Our Queen began investigating matter, further discussion led the royal council to believe that the ancient dragon Avildar had awoken from its 1,000 year sleep! Word spread, eventually, and even the citizens of Evaloch were absolutely terrified by this omen, that lay before them. They had never seen a dragon, as they were ecspecially a rarity in this region of Omagia. The Queen had to act fast, before her city began falling apart in only weeks of her sacred ceremony, everyone had left the castle, all but young Lady Feran. With a bow in one hand and a small scroll in the other, she would eventually make her way to the yellow dragon's cave in some ruins outside of the Queen's city. After the short journey, she gathered her courage and crept inside the caverns, while passing piles of gold and other stolen treasures on her way to Avildar's lair. In the heart of the large cave, she found heaps of corpses, skeletons, and other dead creatures. Feran inched closer, gazing into the dragon's eyes as it awoke to the sound of her foot-steps. This dragon was over 2000 years old, after all. In an instance, the dragon's tail snapped and Avildar pinned her small body against the cold wall. With her last ounce of breath, she said, "T-the... scroll... r-read it, ple-e-ase!" and then, Queen Faren began to slip into her last seconds of life, as Avildar whispered back, "Mortal, you dare reap me of my fortunes? For this, you will suffer." And then it was finished, Evaloch was no more. Year after year, time took place. The goblins of the forest would soon take over.
Now, dragons don't naturally leave their resting place. Yet Avildar was different, he only wished to protect his home from outsiders. As for Evalochians, they wished to destroy him and most dragons do not tolerate such nonsense, as they are far more wiser than any immortal or mortal could understand. Some tomes, books, and other writings of Omagia tell of stories that describe fantastic dimensions, where dragons came from; unworldly beings. As for Avildar, he decided to find a new home after the goblins began scaring off the wildlife and food, this dragon enjoyed fine meats; no scales or hides. This time, our dragon would find an immense glacier in the middle of a frozen lake. Besides the cold weather, it was the perfect home. Avildar brought every last bit of his riches to his new haven, as well. Ranging from the pure gold, relics, and even the forgotten scroll that Faren had brought with her before her untimely death. It was nearing the time of death for the dragon as well, as he had lived for over 2,500 years now, and he was ready to pass over to wherever his next destination, may it be hell or heaven. During his last few days in Omagia, Avildar began looking over a few of his finest collections when he stumbled across the magnificent scroll that Faren had with her on that tragic day. The dragon still remembered and began to read the scroll's text with ease, for the very first time. It was now, that this lost soul had learned the true meaning of friendship and respect. The scroll was only a letter, a letter letting the old dragon know that she was leaving for a new life, happiness, and looking for friendship. Faren's own wishes were that of the dragon's, she had left the entire city to Avildar, to do as he wished. Yet, it was too late now. Avildar knew what he had done was wrong and felt sorrow, pain, and guilt inside of him. It was at this moment, the wise being began sobbing and crying like a young man. With his last living seconds, the dragon shedded a cold tear that crystallized into a large block of frozen ice, reinforced with the dragon's last thoughts and wisdom.
Avildar was deceased now, his corpse had dissappeared into the glacier's embodiment. Time continued on, and a few children from a nearby town were adventuring with their wooden boat, when they found the icy island and Avildar's grave inside the great glacier. At first, they were scared and ran away from the sight that lay before their own eyes. One boy, however, did not turn in fright. Instead, Chavus wished to explore the ancient place more. The gold was still glowing, but one thing caught the boy's attention more than anything else in the old dragon's den. There slept, in front of skeletal remains of Avildar, his very own tear. It had still remained intact over this many years, perhaps the dragon's spirit is still dwelling inside of that same crystal, even now. Chavus leaned down and grasped the frozen tear in his hands and silently spoke three magical words, "The Dragon's Tear..."
Nobody knows what happen after this event, it's said that the 'Dragon's Tear' gave Chavus the legendary boy, any power or dream he wanted to possess. However, some scholars of today's time beg to differ. In fact, it's believed that the family heirloom was only passed down from father to son and when it came to an ignorant daughter, she sold the artifact to a travelling merchant who later would lose the item in a gamble with some thieves in the barron deserts. If you try talking to locals in the pubs and taverns they will tell you that it was brought to a greedy jeweller who worked with crafty gnome to break the 'Dragon's Tear' into 5 different shards, and that they've been scattered across the world now. Anywho, the legend still lives on and the treasure is now considered the great mother lode, an ongoing dream that most Omagians live to pursue.
The question still exists though, does the relic still have the dragon's forbidden knowledge of such forces that could bring cataclysmic destruction or unthinkable success? There is only one way to find out for sure, so brace yourself for Omagia's darkest secrets, fearsome monsters, and even find some allies or meet a few enemies on the way. Avildar is summoning you, heed his awakening. This legend's story is in your hands now, hero. |
