Spar Server

Due to recent events for which I still hope a positive solution can be found, the server list is currently lacking a traditional sword server. I have no intention of re-publishing Classic at this point in time, and there doesn't seem to be a readily available alternative to place hopes on.

I therefore propose the creation of a server which consists entirely of a spar arena. This would effectively mean that there is no in game economy and no requirement for development staff. Once the core spar systems are in place (which I would be willing to provide) the only real requirement for maintaining it would be monitoring/GP staff.

As of yet I have not received word from Graal management whether they would be open to supporting or hosting it, though I would be prepared to cover server rental costs if necessary (a whip-round would of course be nice!).

Along with the spar, perhaps we could have a PK arena off to the side. Sometimes, the urge, hard to fight, you just gotta PK a noob.

I mean, sure.. or you could just put Unholy Nation back on the list, and everyone can continue to spar on that server... or play events? You know like what people have been doing for over 10 years now on Graal.

Everyone just sat there and idled. Almost everyday, back in the day, you could go in TC Spar and someone would be in there. These days, TC spar was just as empty as the rest of the server.

Not sure about events, did people still play them?

I have a question, can we maybe have a level submission competition to see who can design the best spar level? Or even better, what if everyone submits spar levels and the stage is picked from the pool by a random number generator daily?

I have an overworld already fit for purpose which you could use. The original concept behind VS:CONFLICT was complete chaos; PK / Sparring with a leveling up system.

I would be open to adding a standard PK level, but beyond that this shouldn't really be seen as a server project, but rather a makeshift low-maintenance solution for the current lack of a traditional sword server.

Think "it does what it says on the tin".

Bringing VS:Conflict sounds like a nice idea to me great overworld.

i would just add a normal spar ring on zodiac (near osl) but its too laggy

Yep. Just upload a sever with a level to chat in, a level to spar in, and a level to PK in.

Zodiac's classic style hit detection is so weird from their Classic Spar tourney events. But I have seen quite a few players from Classic-styled servers on it so having a Classic-Style spar in OSL 2 or somewhere could prove beneficial. We used to have a portal type teleport thing in the ET house to warp players to a Classic-PK level back when Wolfey was ETA and it wasn't laggy...maybe doing something similar with a spar arena could work out?

It's apparently "weird".

I've even had people tell me that the detection on iClassic is "weird" who didn't realise it's default. Just goes to show how so much complaining can be caused by mass hysteria.

It's weird relative to Classic, sure, but I get what you mean. Sometimes placebo goes a long way.

I love this idea, but why not take it a step further and just have a full events server? With multiple games/activities with sparring and PK. I think the market is there for a server of just that nature. Again a staff requirement would be minimal and I am sure many people could contribute activities for the server. Just a thought, but I would love anything that gets a playercount going on PC Graal.
