Tired of a Dead Server

Now its out, I think the time has finally come to tell this forum my opinion about gk:

The officials should do something about it, or quit the server.

For weeks, there is nothing up, hardly events, no updates, no players, and I even think that some players have taken the inactivity as reason to quit forever.

The membercount is already low enough, something should be done about it.

Okay Björn is graduating, but in general only few things happened in the last months, if you ignore the activity due christmas.

Furthermore, eastern is in a couple of days, and nothing is going on debug to even provide a small action for eastern.

For myself, iam lat on debug, okay, but nowadays noone is really willing to provide gfx to a dead game which makes it hard to work on anything innovative.


In a nutshell: What the hell is up? Is gk dropped, or just died by itself?
Something has to be done or large part of the playerbase will be lost forever.

I haven't been playing. Seriously considering quitting. Every time I log on now I step outside trade, look around and log off. I can't host events because I have no prizes. I really don't care about the playercount. There's just not really anything fun to do that I haven't done 100s of times already.

Yeah, likely because noone except björn can really add anything.

Okay he is graduating, but thats no excuse, as it just would have been possible to install a replace until björn has finished has school graduation (e.g. Dan from Zone or Tig).

Afaik this was not done because björn fears conspirators would take over his position, and likely ignores that this just results out of the unhappiness of the players too.

Same for me..There's not much to do when no one's on and its boring to do the same thing over and over again. So i basically gave up until something happens.

Just keep a record of who won and let them know that you will pass the info along to maroku to be dealt with.

This can't be helped at the moment as bjorns uber busy irl so we can't get refills.

Yeah I been on zone a lot but playcounts been pretty crappy when I have been on so I haven't seen a need to host.

I still have my EM prize bag with several prizes in it... lmao...

One thing I always hated about GK is how hard it is to learn how to do everything. If you don't have any talented friends in GK your going to have one hell of a time learning to play.

I think the decrease of players can be blamed somewhat on lack of updates, but I think what really needs to happen is GK be closed down for awhile so they can release a huge update. To bring back the playercount.

I know that sounds crazy but I have seen other games that have done this go from a playercount of 1000, to a playercount of 3000.(Not graal btw)

Well last update was trial island...I know maroku is working with bjorn on a new event...not sure what Tigs doing and I think john wants to start on a new cave

What I really love is how people will piss and moan about the server being dead, but when they're asked what they want the best they can come up with is "new stuff!" And if hey can one-better that, which is rare - it's "new monsters LOL"...


It's too easy to complain, the server would hardly be dead if any of you cared half as much as you act. When something is broken there's always a very specific reason, or a collection of specific reasons - it's not just "broken"... and GK is no different.

Its not that the problems are a secret, aren't they?

Nothing to do, odd ways to level, broken gameplay and economy. Some patches won't do it rather a good makeover.

It would still be dead. The existence of action doesn't guarantee a server's survival. When 2K1 was dying, just about everything was tried (new features, new events, new monsters, reset, etc.) and it didn't do a thing. If you want to see if an idea has potential, ask yourself what reasons a player has to play 2K2 instead of Zodiac, and then see if that idea adds to that list in a meaningful way.

My statement stands true in itself. If players were more interested in helping and less in complaining they would be occupied, so much so that they probably wouldn't leave because "there's nothing to do".

Occupied doing what? Playing the server? We're talking about a group of around 10 forumgoers, most of whom actually do play the server. Developing? Even if it were possible, development in and of itself accomplishes very little.

Said it before and I'll say it again food system = not noob friendly.
People don't wanna spend any time getting food to keep their food level up no matter how easy it is to get food. Plus it's so hard to level up for noobies, sure first few levels are easy but after that the noob killer kicks in and makes it like impossible for noobs to level because they can't kill anything due to lack of equipment.

Need more noob friendlyness.

I've always thought the loot system was horrible on GK. It would be a nice addition to add rare drops to ALL monsters, but they should be very low percentages. Even if they don't add new monsters or dungeons at least while you're grinding all these monsters you have a chance to get a rare item.

All monsters should join a loot table. As in monsters level 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, etc., have rare drops, nothing that's extremely awesome, but something more powerful than you can craft or win in most events. Also, when I say rare, I'm talking anywhere between a .01-.5 percent drop rate.

Bosses should drop really good rare items with a higher percentage, such as 1-3 percent.

Anyone agree here?

Most gameplay and economy issues are mudlib wise and would have to fixed by björn or stefan, I don't even think that tig has access to these files, and they are likely not easy to program, so what should we contribute to that?
Its easy to say "you don't contribute, so don't cry when it's dieing!" but that certainly does not fit here.

The players can only see the symptomatics, but hardly the mechanics behind them.

What disturbs me?
- No stronger Enemies
- No motivation to lvl up
- Wierd pvp balance
- Alchemy, which allowed people to farm millions of plat is not being rebalanced, (regarding dopv and those exp balm)

I think that Björn ever only released some goodies and hasn't fixed anything gameplay regarded for ages, which makes the game now finally collapse.

I just can speak for the european playerbase, but I noticed that in the timespan of 15:00 - 23:00 GMT+1, until our american friends are slowly joininh in, theres nothing up. Nothing.

@ James, yeah Diablo2 like drops would be cool I agree to that

Go ask some players on Zodiac why they're playing Zodiac and not GK and see how many give you those reasons.

Yeah the players complain a lot then when confronted to help out they disappear only to resurface later to complain about the addition to the server or that there is no new content.

Players are content to complain. Thats why I lost such energy in this server. Its a lot of work for one person to do a project when people just don't care at all to help out then have the audacity to complain how crappy it is later when ALL of them had a chance to help out and decided instead to sit on their butts in trade and go afk.

People are generally lazy, but I think gk's problems are rather based on, that the old content is broken, rather than new content is really missing. Sure it is, but I don't regard that as worst problem.

Just because we all pay for our subscriptions doesn't mean we can complain.
