Graal v6 Open Beta

I'm happy to announce the beginning of the Graal v6 open beta. Anyone is welcome to download and try out the new beta, and developers are encouraged to test their content with the beta client. The new client contains a host of new features and fixes, including external windows for the scripted playerlist and RC, new script features, improved performance, and Mac users will also be happy to know that this is a Universal binary that works much faster on Intel Macs.

This client won't be perfect, and there are likely to be teething problems and bugs. If you experience any problems, please check the relevant thread and let us know about them in the relevant threads here.

A Linux version will follow shortly, and I'll try and get a detailed changelog up at some point.

Runs 10 times more smooth than the old client but I'm hating the rest of the adjustments.

You need to clearly state what you mean by "adjustments" and provide alternative solutions (if you want anything changed, that is).

The in-game forums on UN with v6 are crappy... They overlap now and it's horrible. I think I will be using my normal client until this gets fixed!

Does every single thing need to be child windows now?
The controls are a bit more glitchy, on UN I can't roll with F, and it keeps having the shift button get stuck until I press it again.

Also being able to change font would be nice.

Also my buddy list isn't loading.

And I think the pure black in the tileset is transparent because when I see pure black, it has this smear effect where it shows the previous pixels that you saw where the pure black pixels are.

This was on Skyld's beta distribution page. I assume it probably still holds true.

The client is sometimes reporting a different version number on the serverside than it is on the clientside. Don't rely too much on checking the precise version number.

I'm guessing Stefan's waiting until the official release to make it 6.0 so that he can track old versions.

5.3 is the correct version number for this version. The version number won't become 6.0 until the final release.

The version number is reported correctly both clientside and serverside in this version I think. At the moment, at least.

5.0x was v5, then came 5.100-5.265 (165 releases, mainly on iPhone), now 5.300 on Windows and 5.301 on Mac for the public beta of v6

I have reason to believe that there is a problem with the speed system sending false-positives regarding speedhacking to RC.

I just got jailed for 30 days on Era for attempting to carry 2.9k plain donuts to be sprinkled.
Apparently, it flagged that I was trying to hack my speed and given my jail/ban record, it isn't easy to prove that I didn't do it.

Basically I just picked up a bunch of donuts, decreasing my walkspeed from about 1.08 to 0.33. I attempted to walk toward a table to "sprinkle" the donuts. Something triggered ToRC saying I was hacking my speed.
"Masa (Masa) has been caught hacking his/her speed [delta: 9.615432977]"

Should a fix be found, make it a priority to unjail me.

Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.53 GHz
4GB Ram
Running on Snow Leopard OS/X 10.6.4

There's my v6 Beta test-run.
On a positive note, it does run smoother!

The message means your client is running faster than it should be (it's designed to detect people using programs like !xSpeed).

It took 9.615 seconds to trigger your client, run a 10 second timer, and send the results back to the server. Logically, this process should take >10 seconds, but false-positives do happen because timers are never 100% precise.

So unless for some reason 10 second timers are finishing way before 10 seconds with v6, I doubt this is a bug with the client. Era staff need to take a look at logs to see if it was just a one time thing, or if you were frequently beating the 10 seconds.

I love v6. Has reduced my lag tremendously. The only thing i don't like about it is the player list I think the player list before was sexy

This issue has been identified and fixed in a test version of the forums. For some (or no) reason, text field reflow works slightly differently in v6 than v5. I made a post related to this in the bugs thread but it didn't really yield a response. Other cosmetic issues remain so I wouldn't quite call it v6 ready. Will try to put in some time soon.
