I think that even in a game that has the best plot, the best coding, the best levels, and basically the best everything, the players' chief goal may always remain to be "Get every weapon, item, and/or power". It doesn't matter how well it's written, not many people are going to play it through for the story alone. They want to wreak some havoc or at least mess with someone's mind.

yeah, because most players grew up with 1 player games that you oppose the A.I. with, they try to "win" the game instead of playing it to the point that its makers want
